If You have ever tried to get the rust out of a gas tank, You probably poured in nuts, bolts screws and other miscellaneous hardware, then added Diesel, and shook the whole tank like mad.
It is messy, time consuming and a real pain . Friend Wes turned Me on to this product a while back, and it really works.
RUSTECO ,is an inert chemical that is wholly organic. It is simple to use, soak the metal in it, or brush/spray it on. It acts like a primer, so You can paint directly over it.
RUSTECO is safe for all metals, including aluminum, and chrome. There are NO shipping, handling or disposal restrictions.
After use, it is poured through a strainer, back into a plastic storage container, to be re-used.
My Friend Tuggie asked Me to treat His Triumph 500 Trophy tank for Him, as it had sat and rusted over the past year or so.

A nice purple metalflake, eh? Here is the inside.

I pored the RUSTECO into the tank, all the way to the top, then installed the cap.
Then , I put it in this Tupperware Tote box, which will set in the sun ,and warm the chemical to begin the process.

What would it do to paint?
Will the sun expand it and make it leak? Those old Triumph gas caps are often leakers.
Does the "primer" hold up to gas?
Sounds like neat stuff...I gotta get some! Where do you get it?

The tank sat out in the sun for about 48 hours, which gives the chemical time to really work. When working with this chemical, use safety glasses and gloves, in case someone is watching, but it is very inert, and safe to use.
This morning, I pored the chemical back into its contianer, straining out the sediment with a pair of Daves used panty-hose. I then flushed out the remaining chemical with the garden hose. My hose is black,:), so it was sun-warmed, to help the rinse process. A car wash wand may be used if needed, to complete the rinse cycle.

Here is the after shot. Some slight staining remains, but the metal is clean and bright. Blow the inside of the tank dry with compressed air immediately. before flash rust developes. Then, a small amount of diesel, or, a gas/oil mixture needs to be sloshed around inside, to protect the tank from beginning to rust again.
Clean is good!

This beats the heck out of the old method, and is fully approved by Khasi (the Sumerian Goddess of Beer) who is the official Quality Control Kitty here. RUSTECO will not fill or repair pinholes or leaks, it is intended as a cleaning agent only.

Dave, I left a little room in the top of the tank to allow for expansion. It did not vent out of the cap.
If I were painting metal, I personally would not use this product as a primer, but, the directions make that claim....
I have used it on a couple of My old bikes tanks with no problems whatsoever.
I did spill some on the paint, but it does no harm to the finish. Wes swears by this stuff.....Thats good enough for Me!

Skinner, I have never used it on an aluminum tank. Product info says safe for ferrous and non-ferrous meatals, including aluminum and galvanized cooling towers.
You can go to www.rusteco.com for more info.
