My rear pads on my R were wearing unevenly to the point that the wheel side was almost at the wear limit, you know, the little peek-a-boo hole is almost worn through. So I repack the little rubber gaitors with new silicon grease, press the pistons all the way in to their stops and install new pads.
BUT, I can't get the pads to go over the disc and allow the caliper to drop down into its mounted position. I can't seem to spread the pads wide enough dispite the fact that the pistons are as deep into the caliper that they can go. One other point. I serviced the brakes fluids as well. Yes, its an abs system and I've done this every year with out a problem using the method on the AdvRider site.
By the way, the pads wore unevenly due to the fact that the gaitors were completely devoid of any grease. A shame really, because I've gotten 36K out of these pads (abs) and had I realized the reason for uneven wear I probably would have gotten at least another 20K.
So now the repair has been made and I can't get the friggers back on the disc! Its always something, isn't it Dallara?
