General question for you GS owners (though this would likely apply to any of you with hexheads):

What is your speedo reading and how far off do you think it is? Common info. is that the BMW speedos are about 10% generous with indicated speed.

My GS reads 70 mph in 6th gear at 4K rpms. I am guessing that I am not actually going 70, based on what I see cages doing when I am riding at that indicated speed. I don't have GPS to check it.

Bones, I have a calibrated bicycle computer mounted on my bike. It's accuracy has been verified by police radar. My R will indicate 8% high on the speedo and the odometer will read 4% higher.

Mine reads the same at 4k. Wouldn't know about actual speed since everybody knows.....

The new R1200's are more accurate than previous. My ST at an indicated 152 is actually 147.

Dean....I will be going neither 147 or 152 as my GS will be ridden on the street. I am assuming you were on the salt at those speeds?

Harry -

Thanks for the inspiration for my new "qualification" of GPS-P for GPS Pussy - I most definitely am one....:eusa_drool: - But thank god I am no longer an ABS-P!

When I saw the title of this thread, I was afraid I was going to have to put on a Speedo and take my picture next to the GS - believe me, that would not have been pretty.....:embarassed:

I am going in for the 600M service tomorrow, but during the break-in period 4K RPM have equated to 75 MPH indicated. I am still waiting for my GPS mount from Z-Technik, bit yesterday afternoon I actually zip-tied my 2610 to one of my windscreen stays and screamed ass down US 60 to my teaching gig at the motorcycle school. It looked like the Speedo was pretty darn accurate, only about 3 mph slow at 75 mph indicated - what is that, about 4 percent slow on the speedo as verified by GPS? It could be that I have an atypically accurate speedo, which would account for the difference in RPM to speedo ratio between me on the one hand and Bones and Harry on the other. My RT speedo was about 8 to 10 percent slow as verified by GPS.

YMMV
