To Our Contributing Members - Thank You

I would like to thank all of those who have generously contributed to the financial stability of the Motorcyclist Cafe. As most folks here know, a group of about 20 people (the Founder Members) made initial contributions to get the site up and running.

After the software was purchased, hosting fees paid and a few other incidentals were covered, we asked for the ongoing support of our registered members. In the two weeks since we established our Membership page and associated Paypal account, 20 people have responded.

I would like to thank the following people, and to encourage their participation in the Sandbox, that area of the site reserved for all discussions pertaining to the administration and management of the site.

As I wrote in reply to Abhijeet's post in Back Room, I initially thought that it wasn't possible to pay via PayPal from South Africa but have since been told it should be. I do not want to try it from Nigeria as I believe that it is fraught with risk but my wife will be back in SA in mid June and she will try to make the payment then. I will let you guys know if it works and to keep an eye out for the payment to make sure it went through. Sorry for the delay from my side.

We still use those measurements of the King's finger, hand-span, stride, all that.

NO! Well, partly. To tell the truth we're about half way metric. We buy our beer in pints, but buy our fuel in litres. Distance is still measured in miles but cloth (for example) is measured in meters. My kids don't know what a "half inch" is. Tell 'em it's "about a centimeter" and they're right with you. Our money has gone metric, there are now 100 pence to the pound - used to be 240 - but we're sticking to pounds not euro's.

That's going to be one of my "small tips" over on the Retirement thread...ask for the seniors discount everywhere you go.
It's only embarrassing the first few times and you usually get it!
At hotels tell them you're old and a member of everything.

I'm waiting for the new federal government plan that will make our wealthiest 5% of the Cafe members pay more while we poor impoverished retirees will actually be paid to read and post comments. America in the 21st century, ain't it grand?!

In the mean time, until such laws take effect I shall contribute as I can even though this means I'll have to cut back on critical medicines and eat cat food for dinner at least one night a week. The Motorcyclists Cafe is worth it.

Lisa is a friend of mine from 4 or 5 years ago in California. She was the GM of San Jose BMW for a while. She rides a BMW R1200ST and, Dave you will love this, a Triumph Speed triple. She and her partner have moved to the Pheonix area and bought a house. She sent me an E Mail the other day after finding my E Mail address from Chris at SJ and sent me a hellow. I called and told her about the "Cafe". After lurking briefly, she sent off her dues.

Lisa, a harty welcome to the "Cafe" pull up a chair and have a cup o coffee. I think she might have a lot of interesting things to add to our small but far reaching group.
