Wild Will

Well, I just can’t ignore the letters I’ve gotten from my friends on the Moto Café. In my life I’ve seen stuff go downhill fast on internet forums, and I’ve become weary of some people’s ignorant and insulting behavior. One time a few years back, two guys got into a fight on a ride. One was a 60 year old lawyer and the other a rich, 60 + Persian businessman. He had an attitude commonly seen in eastern countries displayed by the privileged. The Persian sees an old ramshackle cabin in the Sierras in some broke dick town, and decides he’ll take the animal skull that’s on the porch home with him. Lawyer says no, you won’t; that belongs to somebody. Soon they’re face to face, shouting epithets and spitting into each others eyes all the virulence mankind holds in his Neanderthal genes. The fight is split up and the ride disintegrates, many hundreds of miles from home. A bad taste remains to this day, because of thoughtless and stupid behavior.
Next week, there’s a site that contains the word ‘idiots’, believe it or not, and Skull seeker and another lawyer guy decide they’ll kidnap and cut up the lawyer who fought with the Persian. This was stated on the ‘net. Next thing you know lawyer 1 presses charges against lawyer 2 and this big brouhaha ensues. The sheriffs office is involved. Childish behavior, and hardly worth it.
I bowed out of that group for the most part after that.
So, new guy Will is drawn into a southbound discussion wherein he’s insulted by some guy who he’s never met. This guy actually tells a vastly experienced rider, never seen, that he’s sure he can dust him off. So, not understanding ANYTHING about this forum except what my pal Dangerous Dave has told me, this is hurled my way by the guy who actually states on his heading that he’s banned by some ‘NY group who are cheese dicks’.
Now that I look at it again, I can see this guy has an attitude; he speaks without thinking first. His bravado has made him a legend in his mind. He can beat anybody, dust them off, blow them away. I don’t need this crap, says Will.
I’m here to share what I’ve experienced from another unique perspective with my newly acquired friends. To share the view from the inside of my Arai shield as the world tilts ferociously, sheer rock wall on one side and 200 feet of unguardrailed hell on the other; the view from inside my moto consciousness.
I don’t want to have this guy banned, as he suggests, so he can go somewhere and boast that he’s deemed a sociopath by 2 different forums! He must be BAD! No, I don’t want to do anything other than share my motorcycling life with the members. I have a wild sense of humor, and am the first to make a joke or laugh, but this boast sent to an unknown new guy just hit me wrong. I live as far on the edge of the western continent as one can. I do it because of the roads here. I did it because life is short, and there is no other sport one can do that’s better or more thrilling than motorcycling, for me. Triumphs, BSA’s, Nortons, Vincents, all those sweet Yamaha 2 strokes, Ducatis, BMW’s, factory mechanics schools in the 60’s, riding in Europe and North Africa when it was still ridiculously cheap way before Nixon bailed in Viet Nam, ad nauseum. That’s what I came here for – to share with people I’d never meet otherwise – at the invitation of my friend Dangerous Dave. I trust this guy. Well, I’m back because all of you who have written have proven to me that I belong here, and I humbly thank you. There is always a place for you if you care to visit N. Ca. I always have time for a ride.
There’s a place in my life for the other guy too, if he’ll cease with his unwelcome BS.
