A few days ago, a friend called me and told me about a stained glass studio (http://www.beyerstudio.com/) that was hiring. Apparently, their services are in high demand owing to the quality of their craftsmanship and the relative rarity of stained glass artisans. There is a fairly hefty commute involved and my initial pay isn't awesome, but the positives are almost too many to mention. Among them: lots of potential for advancement, excellent learning opportunity, a chance to actually be creative in a work setting, travel, good benefits, profit sharing, and a very good chance of being good at it!

I start next Wednesday. This will likely mean I'll be around here a lot less for the next little while as I acclimate to the new job and its attendant commute. Please don't think I've forgotten about you all!

The feeling I'm getting is this could very well be the kind of adventure I've been praying for!:eusa_clap:

Congrats, Jeremy! It does sound like a rare and excellent opportunity. Their work and client resume is impressive and that means exposure to lots of high level clients and other excellent artists as you develop your new skills. Hopefully find time to keep your painting going and somewhere down the line it will all converge into fame and fortune or at least a good living.

Jeremy, that's really great. Of course, we'll be sorry to see less of you for a while but, in the cause of a greater good we'll forgive you!

Best wishes to your lovely wife from us all too,
Si.

Good on you, Jeremy.

And, depending on the route, that commute might be a good thing.... on a bike.

Best of luck on your new adventure.

Jeremy, I just had time to look at the website...very impressive!
One thing that really impressed me is the tenure of the staff. These people obviously have the skill to hire & keep good & talented employees.
A low turnover rate speaks volumes about the owners and their interesting business.
I bet this is going to be one of the most interesting chapters in your book...one of these days!

Thanks everyone!

I absolutely will not forget you folks! I didn't want you to think I was deserting!

As for the commute, there are pockets of the trip that are wonderful, but by and large, it's pretty dismal and congested. I"m very thankful for decent area knowledge and the alternative routes I know. It is a blessing that I have several wonderful places I could stop for breaks if the traffic is too bad. I'm also hoping to get some overtime here and there.

Spot on about the tenure of the employees Dave! The fact that most of the staff has been there for long stretches definitely is good stuff. I'm trying not to get overly excited about all of this until it sinks in. This has all appearances of being a dream job! I'm hoping I feel the same way 3 months (or three years) out.

One of the best parts of this is that may of the employees are still active in their own studio work. It's a great atmosphere for creative people! It doesn't hurt that at least 3 other people on staff are avid motorcyclists...
