Hi Guys!

I bought an R1200GS at the beginning of this week.

I tried the Adventure (I had actually ordered one, deposit paid in August last year) but I found it just too big and a tad too heavy as well. So after much deliberating, I decided that the ordinary GS would be the better bike for me. I collect it from our local BMW dealer on 19th April. It’s in yellow, with ABS, heated grips and clear indicator lenses. And it’ll be a beauty!

I decided that one bike had to go, and I really couldn’t part with my beautiful R850R, so I’m selling the Vespa. The R is fully tour equipped with panniers and though a three year old bike, has been lovingly cared for by me and its previous owner, and is still just like new. As my first big bike, I am very attached to it, and the 850 engine is the smoothest boxer twin. Down on power very slightly to the 1150, but much sweeter. So I’m keeping that and hoping Elaine, when she passes her test, will ride it.

I test rode both the GS and the GSA, two days on each, back to back. The GS was the easier bike to ride, less heavy, handled better. The GSA had more presence, better wind protection and was a better high speed cruiser for that alone.

I'll let you know how it goes when I bring my new bike home.

Best wishes

Jonothan

Congratulations, Jonothan. The new bike sounds great. That 850 doesn't sound too bad either.

A guy could get new bike fever hanging around here.

Hey Jonothan -

Nice to hear from you! Congrats on the beautiful new bike! Great choice! :041: :041: :041: I am in the process of buying a new GS Adventure - deliberating over ABS or no ABS and looking at availability (only a few ABS models made it across the pond in the initial traunch from Berlin!)

Jonathan, you certainly have had a long wait since August and I am sure you must really be appreciating your new ride. I hope the weather turns beautiful for you soon and you are able to get out and about on the new bike. And, as much as I hate to say it, I bet the 850 will get a LOT of garage time unless "Mrs. Dr. Jonathan" gets her license - I doubt you will want to get off that new GS. Great color, too! Very visible out on the motorway!

Well - now keep coming back with pics and ride reports!

Take care!

As I have posted so many times before that the others here are tired of hearing me say "Fantastic choice. You will love it."

Congrats. Enjoy and ride safe. Let's see pics when you get it.

Thanks for the positive comments, guys. I'll post pictures when I pick her up. I've had a bit of flack off my missus for keeping the R but she's getting used to the idea now.

Excellent decision my friend. If I get another bike, the R stays, regardless.

While I can't attest to the GS's dirt worthiness, I must say that its street handling is impeccable. I just test rode one a couple of days ago and I can't believe that a bike that big, that tall and that heavy can take a mean corner.
