You just never know, Be careful, and even that is not enough, I don't know but I'd bet the driver has a history of drinking & driving. Den

EDEN VALLEY, Minn.—Two people on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle were killed when their bike was rear ended by a minivan in Eden Valley.
The St. Cloud Times reports Sunday that the driver of the minivan is being held on possible charges of fourth-degree DWI and criminal vehicular operation.

Saturday afternoon's crash on Minnesota Highway 55 killed 50-year-old James R. Nelson and 43-year-old Amy J. Langford. They are both from Spicer.

Den, did you know them?
Please update if more info comes out on this.
Man, this seems to be the year for motorcycle rear-end fatalities.
Too damn bad...

"Their motorcycle wasn’t turning or slowing down when it was rear-ended, according to a State Patrol report."

Dave, I will post as information become available. No I didn't know them. The report I read in the paper this morning stated that the Motorcycles was not stopped but traveling at speed. Drinking, texing, cell phones, we have a lot going against us, Den

What always gets me about these terrible accidents, once you get past the tragedy and waste of it all, is that a year from now you'll read that the driver of the car was given 6 months in jail and a $500 fine.

There was a recent story in Quebec of a family of riders ploughing into the back of a stopped minivan. The father and his daughter on the first bike to hit the van were killed. The wife and mother riding on the second bike was injured but not killed. Apparently, the young woman driving the van stopped suddenly to let a duck or ducks cross the road in front of her. Last I heard, the police were considering charges against the van driver.

I read of any incident involving a bike and think to myself "but for the grace of God" it hasn't happened to me!

That's the kind of "accident" that really gets my blood boiling.
No matter why the van stopped...smart/stupid, legal/illegal, whatever, the riders hit a stopped vehicle.
We like to side with the riders and want to throw the book at car drivers, and there are always mitigating circumstances and the unknown, but what reason/excuse is there really for hitting a large, immobile object in the road?
Things like following too close, inadequate training & not paying attention come to mind as the real cause.

We had two die this spring at a stop light when a driver in a SUV failed to stop. Claims his brakes failed but the post wreck inspection couldn't find anything wrong. It was either he didn't pay attention or hit the gas pedal instead. The police checked his cell phone records and he wasn't on the phone at the time. Guess we'll never know for sure but the driver wasn't cited for anything and in the meantime we have two families without fathers. Go figure??????
