Pulled the trigger yesterday on a new R1200ST (black/blue) . Cross Country BMW in Metuchen NJ put together a great deal on the new bike and also made me whole on the trade of my 25k mile '02 R.

They need to order a couple of parts (center stand, luggage rack, etc) and I am having a set of the Verholen bar risers shipped directly to CC BMW. I'll be picking it up next week after we get back from the Bahamas. :icon_cool:

Thanks to you guys who chimed in with input and especially to Dean for the superb review upon his initial purchase.

BTW I'll be selling a shitload of R1150R accessories after I pick up the new bike. Stay tuned.

Tony,
Congratulations on acquiring the new ST.

Just curious....is BMW getting too cheap to include a centerstand with the fabulous ST?

Good question - I think the center stand is $110 extra.........
At least the ABS is 'only' $995 vs $2k on the R. :icon_cry:

Don't they - BMW - charge you extra now to get a tool kit?

Cheers!

Nope, Si...

Dave/Darth says I'm "tiresome and pointless..." when I ask questions like that! :eusa_dance:

I'll let Bones or somebody else bring up the keys...

Cheers!

Nope - It's a little card that goes in your wallet. BMWNA will give you one. :037:

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE KEYS ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :104:

Congrats on the bike. We want pictures.

The "new" bikes come with a tool kit that is every bit as useful for fixing the bike as a bottle cap and a condom. If you want a real tool kit, you are going to have to make up one on your own. I did for the 1200GS for longer trips. It won't fit under the seat, that I assure you.

Enjoy and ride fast and safe.

That's a great looking bike. Hope you get lots of good times on it.
That's the same dealership that sold my Rockster when new. I bought it used(1800 mi)from the Honda dealer next door.
I visited your dealer while picking up my bike, they seemed like good people.

I really like that color. With the deals the local shop had, I really expected to buy one just like it. Problem was, the GS fit me so much better.

From what Dean and Roger have had to say, that has to be BMW's best kept secret. Enjoy the new ride.

Man! That's a good lookin' machine! I thought I had a preference for the Red/Graphite, but that blue is sweet. You have fun, now.

What's that bike doin' poised straight up. It needs to be leaning hard into a big wide sweeper out in west Texas. At 'bout 115 big ones. :098:

SSSSHHHHHH...its a secret.
The ST is an awesome bike, people get hung up on the headlight. You CAN'T see the headlight sitting on it, except for the great light it puts out.
It handles, sits good, has that sweet Boxer motor, I'm just not sold on the servo brake system. I use mine for everyday commuting with bags, Then pull em off and run her hard. I am adding the topcase and backrest for the wife. I'm thinking I will add the bar-risers as I have a lot of nerve damage in my left elbow and long distances aggravate it. I hate the stock seat and am working on the changes now. I tape towels on the seat, ride it, repeat, when I sort it out, off the seat goes to Sargent. Anybody have a good used ST seat they want to sell?
The Cee Bailey Euro cut sheild is in the garage, but the weather is warming here, so it will stay there for now. Tried it, wow, so quiet, its almost RT like. I'm 5"7" and the seat in the high postion is perfect even if I'm tippy toes ( no...I said tippy...not twinkle).
I'm real happy with the ST. Only bitch is, with the canbus, its a little harder to add driving lights and it does not seem as if the ST is as well supported by the aftermarket as the RT.
Tony...enjoy the new ride, its a beautiful bike inside out.

Tony,
Thanks for the pics. I haven't seen one in blue. I have only seen red ones. Really nice looking bike.

One of the things I think BMW did right with that bike is NOT making the ergos too "sport" along the sport-touring spectrum of things. Most folks who have sport tourers use them for longer rides and sport bike positioning just hurts.

When I rode the ST last season (only about 45 minute ride) I was really impressed with how much more comfortable it was than I thought it would be. I was also impressed with the stability , but it would turn in really nicely.

Really nice in Blue/Graphite. Congrats.

How much DID you pay for your extra key?

Tony -

Congrats - that's a very pretty bike. I have only ridden an ST on a short dealer test ride but I imagine it must be a screamer with that motor and the lightweight, compact design.

I hope you enjoy many years of great riding on the new bike!

Thanks guys for all the posts. I can't wait. We get back to Newark Airport from vacation at 11:15 Saturday which gives me plenty of time to get to the dealer, say goodbye to the R and take delivery of the ST.

I think an early morning Easter Sunday "shakedown cruise" is in order.........

Got back from vacation Saturday afternoon and headed straight to my dealer, checkbook in hand..............

My 2 Blue BMW's :
http://r1150r.smugmug.com/photos/65208619-M.jpg

I had the Verholen bar risers shipped directly to the dealer while I was away and they look (and feel) great. Cross Country BMW in Metuchen NJ also installed the center stand, rear rack, and system cases of course. Delivery went very smoothly, Scott, their Sales Mgr had all the paperwork ready to go. I also ordered the ZTechnik CF tank pad while I was there. They didn't have the key-coded lock cylinders for the cases so I'll also pick them up this week - they're having an Open House on Saturday.

Sucky thing is I haven't even ridden it since coming home from the dealer - My wife, er.. I mean WE decided at the last minute to have Easter at our house so I was very busy helping out Mrs T on Sunday morning, and I left yesterday for a business trip to Raleigh, returning late this evening.

Damn, I need to go out for lunch tomorrow. Maybe to the Jersey Shore.......

Next project is to get it wired up for GPS, V1, and XM. I also need to figure out mounting options for all that stuff - it was defintely easier on the R.

Tony - that's a beauty! Looks like you have yourself quite a little sport-tourer there! Ride safe!
