Hope the good Captain's kin are fine.

I found these amazing pics and thought they would be of interest. I got to watch Mt. St. Helens blow years ago from just outside Portland, OR. Astounding. Then I was detailed to FEMA for emergency relief in Idaho. The ash cover was similar to some of the pics here.

Amazing, thanks Bill.

I've been thinking of Baldur and wondering how his people are. That must be an incredibly tough, brave and resilient band on that little island!
Anyone who has been around horse & cattle people know how personal it is when the animals are scared, in danger, hurting.

Baldur, let us know when you can, your people are in the thoughts & prayers of many.

I can't believe this thread didn't show up for me when I hit New Posts like I always do. Anyway, everyone's fine back home. This eruption, which has caused the largest disruption in European air traffic since WWII, has actually been quite the non-event for Icelanders themselves. For the first week or so the winds were very favorable for the old country, blowing everything out to sea. These past few days however we've had to close the main airports temporarily because of changing winds. What I'm waiting for though, is the proverbial other shoe... Mt. Katla. That mother has the potential, by several orders of magnitude, to show this little pipsqueak erupting now how it's really done.
