I just got back from a run to Big Bend. Anyone going to that part of the country, please stay alert. Not only did we have to dodge a few deer but the Javelina and jack rabbits were a problem also. All these critters seemed bent on suicide.
Unfortunately where I live some of the introduced deer species don't stick to the sunrise/sunset rules - I just missed being taken out be three large deer running at full tilt crossing a highway at 1:30 PM in town. The buck passed in front and two passed behind me.:103:
But the weather was marvelous and Laura's bike only broke down twice.

Sounds like fun, Bill. Will be sure to watch out for the critters as the weather warms up....

Today as I rode around a blind, wet curve, I discovered a fat tusked hog, bigger than my kid's pit bull, runnning across the road, and I was reminded about the time my deceased neighbor, Kurt (Mesothelioma got him despite his penchant for 2 wheeled bravado), was hit broadside by a baby pig while on his Hawk GT Honda 650. The thing threw him down right now, onto his shoulder. Plastic flew like confetti on New Years as his bike slid into a power pole. He had just gotten a new Aerostich suit, and found the soft armor padding too bothersome, took it out and proceeded to smash pork with his un armored shoulder. He was very sorry he removed the padding.
Local deer are hell bant on suicide hereabouts. They'll shoot right out of the wooods in front of you if you're unlucky. I've seen it happen a few times. Nothing you can do except slow down or give up riding. Neither is an option for me, so I always dress for the encounter, and never ride without a back protector.
