My son-in-law just picked this scooter up for a "learner bike" for chump change. It has the rare lower cowl which he plans to sell to almost pay for the bike. Does anyone has experience on this little I-4?

They were sold here as the XJ600 "Diversion". A good little machine in a non threatening sort of way, loads of them were sold as everyday rides. And they're all still out there, everyday.
I'm not aware of any special problems with them, all they need is the usual stuff. Regular oil changes, periodic brake caliper attention to stop them siezing up, just normal things.
Wish him well for us.

What a great find! That was my first street bike, and a great one to learn on. Inline four, air cooled (low maint) 600cc Yamaha. The engine has a good bit of low-end torque, but I squashed mine by installing a Vance&Hines header/pipe. Great sound but it did kill the low end on that bike. The original exhaust was four-into-two with dual mufflers. Heavy. I learned that while the bike didn't blow smoke out the exhaust, and there were no oil leaks, you still had to check the oil. Maybe 'cause it was air cooled? No problems from it, again, good bike.
I learned that I loved motorcycles with that bike, and sometimes think that it would be neat to pick another one up, maybe for my son to learn on.
Back in those days I was more of a weekend warrior type rider, but still managed to ride it to work occasionally. Eventually I "needed" a 900cc bike and unloaded the Seca II for little money. Ahh, the good 'ol days of spending unwisely!
