View Full Version : Expensive wheels

A few of my aging hoon pals went down to Baja in early March for a week. Two have new 1200 GS bikes. One of the guys is an instructor for Reg Pridmore and it's all I can do to keep up with him, briefly, on the pavement. Forget about it off road. The guy's a great and knowledgeable rider, and has years of experience on track, road and off road.

On the trek, they encountered some of the gnarliest riding conditions they ever saw in many Mexican trips, and the two GS's suffered bent wheels; that's both bikes. In some of the sand they encountered you must keep the speed up or you'll, you know...and they hit a rock here and there. Nobody lost a tire, but the wheels are not as off road invulnerable as you might think.

I'm including this for your info, if anybody's interested. The wheels are expensive. Both guys can well afford the replacement wheels, but were surprised to see the damage. Interestingly, a KTM Adventure didn't receive any wheel damage. Luck of the draw again? As they say south of the border, quien sabe!
