I have a 2002 BMW r1150 with the BMW sport screen. I got a new product from Janvil Co. for restoring scratched and uv damaged plastic (great product!). After restoring screen to amazing clarity, remounted, using the rubber type fasteners that I had removed. After tightening down the allen head screws, the windshield could still easily be popped off at mounting points. Is there a trick to these fasteners that I don't realize, or maybe a step I neglected. Any help is appreciated.

Those wellnuts stink. I had a similar problem. Here is what worked, but WARNING: you have to make sure you plan to have the shield mounted forever. Gorilla glue. Put a small amount in the well and smeard on the wellnut. Insert, tighten wellnut, wipe away any excess, leave overnight.

Micheal, make sure you have the right size wellnuts, this was a well know problem, after awhile BMW replaced the original wellnuts with ones that were a little longer, since the change I have had no problems. Den

And, the last check when I tried to purchase the BMW well nuts WITH the washers (yes, one vibrated out while on a freeway), you had to purchase the hardware kit (with brackets). As good as BMW usually us, this system stinks.
I don't know if they have changed that requirement to purchase the hardware kit or not. When I had mine in for the 6K, they had a crash bike and pulled one off for me. Hopefully, they are now available.

I can't confirm this but I've read somewhere on the web that you can get replacements at Home Depot. Might be worth a try.

I went to Home Depot's hardware section, the first draw I opened in the "Specialty Fasteners" section had the exact replacement wellnuts that my local dealer said I would have to buy two complete kits to replace all four wellnuts.
At Home Depot they were called "Expansion Nut , fine thread , #10-32 X 1-1/16". I don't mean these are close to the same, I mean these are the exact fasteners that the dealer was going to rape me on, total cost, $4.00 for the four I needed. Make sure if you replace, to rough up the inside of the bracket they sit in for proper adhesion of rubber to metal.

Did you happen to come up with a washer fit for the windshield that are located at the 4 points the windshild attaches? I lost the nut and washer and if my memory serves me correctly, it was not a plain washer.

Our local dealer stocks the complete kits too, but allows you to take what you need for a nominal price...sort of an "honor system" deal.
Good dealer but a typical BMW hose job..."Ve are NOT avare of a probvlem schtupid American, zo...der es NO probvlem!"
