So my son-in-law, Reid, was riding his 07 Interceptor to work Tuesday morning a couple of weeks ago. He lives in Simpsonville, SC with my daughter Shanda. Shanda and Reid have two daughters Cammie, 3, and Livi, 18 months. Reid put a new rear tire on his bike a few days earlier and it was near freezing that morning. As Reid got to the end of his subdivision road, he pulled out on Bridges Road. Within a fraction of a second he was sprawled out on the pavement. Short story here was the police and ambulance came. Reid got home a few hours later with a badly sprained ankle. The Interceptor was towed to await a decision from the insurance adjuster.
Now Reid is a good rider and at first thought the cold temperature and new tire just didn't mix. He kept telling me he had zero warning and he was on the ground instantaneously ! A few days later he called and told me he didn't know for sure but thought he figured it out. The night before, Reid was out in the garage lubing his chain with chain lube. Cammie, who is 3, was "helping" daddy. Reid has since found a puddle in the garage of what smelled like WD-40. An EMPTY can of WD-40 was also found nearby. See where this is going ??
Reid went to pickup his bike from the impound lot near the end of this week. He was told it was driveable so he limped there with a helmet. Drivable was not exactly the case. AFTER a thorough washing of the rear tire with hot soapy water all the WD-40 finally was removed and Reid drove it home. Cammie has since been questioned and proudly maintains she did in fact "help her daddy out" !!!!!!!
