I just got back from another big ride...this time up to Mount Buller...Here's my pics.

My map shows the roads that I took and Mt Buller Alpine village...it's Melbourne's main ski resort and my main snowboarding destination each Winter.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2220.JPG

Just out of Lilydale and Vineyards everywhere.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2221.JPG

At Healsville I went down this little road to get a nice view of a lake.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2222.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2223.JPG

The next part of my ride is the famous Black Spur and these signs mark the start...check out the road..it's as smooth as a baby's bottom.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2224.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2225.JPG

The road is famous for it's curves...check it out.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2226.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2227.JPG

Two more pics...yes it's a different spot.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2228.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2229.JPG

Just a few more pic in the Spur...what a road!

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2230.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2231.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2232.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2233.JPG

The day started off a bit grey..but when the road left the Black Spur and opened up the sky was a blue as blue.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2234.JPG

I was very tempted to stop for scones and jam...(mmmmm)..maybe next time.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2235.JPG

My next stop was Marysville.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2236.JPG

I saw this on the side of the road..anyone know what it is?

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2237.JPG

Yes I know..just a big kid.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2238.JPG

Also on the side of the road was this cool letter box..a kangaroo..with a frog in its pouch..I didn't see were the letters come out.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2239.JPG

I noticed a new cafe...in neutral..or is that the Neutral Inn.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2240.JPG

I took this road up to the local waterfall...Stevensons Falls...not that big this time of year but very refreshing on a hot day.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2241.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2242.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2243.JPG

Back on the road and heading to Buxton.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2244.JPG

As Pat used to say.."Life is good"

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2245.JPG

I went straight past the Cathedral Mountain...next time I'll check it out...here's a pic of it.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2246.JPG

Back on the road to Taggerty...blue sky..no wind..what a day.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2247.JPG

I spotted these round hay bales..and thought..photo opportunity.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2248.JPG

Anyone know what this is?

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2249.JPG

My shutter finger was getting a workout...nothing special here..just Aussie countryside.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2250.JPG

At Snobs Creek I took this road that I was told was a good road for bikes...this sign confirmed it.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2251.JPG

After half an hour of great twisties I see this...hey..where's the black stuff gone.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2252.JPG

I was told this road was sealed....it got rougher and rougher...

you really notice the weight of these bike when bouncing sideways on a bumpy dirt road.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2253.JPG

When I finally got back on the black stuff I let out the biggest Waa-Hoo!

My poor bike..and it was soooo clean...I guess after half an hour of riding dirt will do that.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2254.JPG

After a quick top up in Mansfield it was back on the road to Mt Buller...that's it in the distance.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2255.JPG

I normally only see this road in Winter on my way to the snow..and it's bumper to bumper cars.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2256.JPG

The entrance to the mountain..and where you have to pay to enter (in ski season)

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2257.JPG

Another great road...and soooo smooooth.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2258.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2259.JPG

I looked out for these but didn't see any.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2260.JPG

This piece of road is so good they have a big race up the mountain here each year.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2261.JPG

These two pics are of the same bend/corner.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2262.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2263.JPG

Getting near the top now...you can see the ski runs.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2264.JPG

This is the Mt Buller village.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2265.JPG

I though I'd see just how far up I can get.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2266.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2267.JPG

I needed Dean-O's new bike to get any further.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2269.JPG

I felt on top of the world.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2268.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2270.JPG

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2271.JPG

I'm on my way back down..stopped for one more pic.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2272.JPG

Same spot looking left.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2273.JPG

My roo whistle must be working because I didn't see one..except the poor skippy.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2274.JPG

I'm now on the road home..and back to clear skys...btw we have these bumpy strips on the road side to wake you up if you fall asleep.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2277.JPG

Late afternoon sun...and my shadow riding alongside....hope you guys enjoyed my pics.

DJ,

Looks like a perfect ride. Those kangaroos look a bit odd, but that mountain view goes on forever...

DJ... Amazing pics...Thanks again for taking us along for the tour. Much appreciated.

Its been said b/4, but what a beautiful country and fantastic place to ride!

I have a niece who was there for about 6 months studying, and they had a hard time getting her to come back home! I can understand why. Also, my wife has a cousin permanently resident there in your great land.

Btw, the big round thing... is it a booey?

Thanks guys.

Yes it is...there was a whole paddock of them..mostly white ones...I think they farm them for their wool or fur.

I've also seen paddocks of deer...I'm not sure what they get from them...maybe antlers?

DJ, your countryside is simply stunning, and once again it is clear that you are the all time king of the riding pictorial.

Are they many cops on that route? Clearly motorcycle haven.

Great stuff as always DJ...wish I'd been there!
I'm pretty sure the big round thing is a mine, probably WWII. I've seen some before, similar but not exactly like this.
