The more I read (& see) this new FZ-1 (the US only gets the "Fazer" version), the more I think this is probably an amazing ride.

Arrived at our dealers a couple of weeks back. I was passing so dropped in for a look. First thing to strike me was the very high level of "fit and finish". No way of telling, of course, how durable the finish will prove to be but for "showroom appeal" the new Yams have left the new Hondas' trailing in their wake.
I had a good poke around and sat on both the FZ1 and Fazer versions. No way round it, they are pure "sports" bikes but with higher bars. The FZ1 had lower bars than the faired one. Both had seats that will keep Sargeants and Corbins future secured. Frenetic fun for those who desire it, but I have to admit no appeal to me whatsoever. Perhaps I'm simply getting too old.
The machine that DID stand out as a real versatile, useful tool, was the TDM900. Really comfortable ergo's, with loads of room. Decent tank range, 130plus top end, all you (or more acurately I) need really. Do you guys get the TDM? It's just occured to me I've never heard it mentioned. Pehaps it's a Europe only model?

DJ: You & I think alike!!!
the TDM: Europe only. We got the TDM 850 for 1 short year here in the US (1992), and obviously went over like a lead balloon. The TDM is such a great bike for so many reasons, but American MC buyers (of japanese bikes) are still quite obsessed with roadracer lookalikes. This is the bike for which the Ducati Multistrada was patterned. If Yamaha made a giant trailie (a la GS Adventure) of the TDM, they might sell a few. I don't understand why they don't bring the XJR1300 to the US either. The TDM is probably a better touring bike than the FJR, but doesn't have 145hp or look "right". The US misses out on many japanese models that are available in Europe/Britain, and it's not just about emissions anymore.
The TDM has it's own WEBSITE!!!
