Bones might know...

I've been playing TT (Tourist Trophy) a little too much lately on the Play Station...and I have a question about the R1.

Geees that things a rocket...I find that the thing revs so hard and strong I have a hard time siting on the couch.

When I change gear from second gear to third I look down and I'm doing 200 kph..that's 125 mph....can that be right?..and this R1 is completely stock..:icon_eek:

BTW..I've got gold and silver on all licenses and won over 80 bikes and heaps of grear..I'm having too much fun....Grand Turismo fans will understand..:045:

DJ...(here's some stills from the game...sorry I over did it with the pics)

I got my answer today...I asked a friend who rides one...he said it will do about 158 kph in first so 200 kph in second should be no problem.

Geeeees...our bike peaks out at 200 kph (in 6th gear)...and feels bloody fast...and an R1 is only in second gear...(screaming it's head off)...now that's fast.

DJ,
BobFV1 can answer better than I can because he had an R1 he used at track days alot. But I have ridden them. Yes, they can go about 500 mph in second gear (OK that is a bit of an exaggeration....but what you describe is very doable). They are absolutely insanely fast. Respect for the throttle is the order of the day when you are on an R1 or any of the current liter bikes. That goes for the 600's too.

Hey DJ -

I just found this.

I have had an 05 R1 for about a year. I have done about 10 track days on it as well as the California Superbike School (Keith Code Racing School). I've had it down twice, and the race plastic is on and off (currently off). I have several performance mods including Graves Velocity Stacks, K&N High FLow Air Filter, Akropovic exhaust.

When entering a hot track from pit lane I usually shift from first to second when triple digits come up on my digital MPH display. On the drag strip at Firebird Main track I had it pulling through 150 in fourth gear - only reason I knew is because I checked and actually was surprised to find I still had fifth gear. I would love to take it to the salt flats and open it up over a mile or two - I have absolutely no doubt that with the mods I could get 180 mph out of it. It is an absolute screamer - my low side was shortly after I got it - too much throttle entering a hard right-hander on the track just drove the 190 rear tire right out from under me. At least I was close enough to the ground that I did not have far to fall.......
