I'm wondering if this might already be a "done deal" as in a magazine over here Aprillia have anounced their intention of returning to the World Superbike grids in 2007 with a 1200cc twin.
Very dissapointing if true, for years Ducati dominated the series due to the capacity advantage they were given by the (Italian) organisers.
I think the fans would prefer to see straight racing of the same machines they rode to the meetings, on an equal footing. Look around any WSB car park, for every Ducati there'll be a couple of dozen 'Blades, Gixxers, etc.
Odd how the same Italian organisers allow a 750cc twin (Ducati) to compete with the 600cc fours, but refuse (as yet) to allow a 675cc triple to compete in the same class. As 675 is exactly half way between 600 and 750 and 3 is exactly half way between 2 and 4 it would seem a logical step to include them.

I hate to say this, but...
God help the Jap 600 fours and the Duc 750 twins if they do let the Triumph 675 triple in there with a decent development budget and good, front-line riders...
I may be wrong, as I often am, but I am pretty sure the combination that Triumph has hit on with the 675 Daytona is one of those magic ones that comes along all too rarely.
Just my two shillings... YMMV.
Cheers!

Allan -
I think you are exactly right about the Triumph 675 Daytona, and especially a race version.
This is going to be a very special, and probably benchmark motorcycle.
