June the 15th. is "National ride your motorcycle to work day." For those who already ride daily, congrats to you all. For those that don't everyday, such as myself , we need to try to make and effort. Also for " some " of my friends that ride HDs I guess it could be " National trailer your motorcycle to work day. " :remybussi:

hmmm, I work from home...does sitting on the bike
and making zumzum noises qualify, or do I really
have to ride around the block too?

Don,
You and the Bronson Bike were not included as well as the brothers and sisters of the Cafe' that ride their motorcycles. I was poking fun at two guys that work in my office. They bought Harleys two years ago to go to Myrtle Beach for bike week. Now Myrtle beach is only 110 miles from Charleston, but they chose to trailer half way to Georgetown, park the trailer then ride to Myrtle Beach. When I asked why they told me 100 miles was just to far and they wouldn't be returning to Charleston until after dark. I guess it's good to know your limitations. To date one of the guys ( a father and son ) has almost 1000 miles on his motorcycle after over two years and the son is a wander lust because he has almost 1200 on his. I told them my normal Saturday morning breakfast ride is between 250 / 300 miles and they look at me like I just stepped off the moon.

Ride on,

Dirty Doug

PS: Took the GS out last night for a quick blast to Edisto Beach and back. A ride of about 75 miles. The shoulder felt stiff but didn't hurt and the shifting is getting better. Instead of shifting with the toe, I just lift the foot. Slow but it gets the job done. It's great to be riding again!!!!!!

What they said,Doug, dont push it! And I didnt take the Harley crack seriously,I get a lot of it. I could go hang out on a Harley forum, but then I "might have to lay it down!":)

Doug,

I appreciate the exemption*. I sure don't ride to work each day, but will make the extra effort to include 6-15 as one of the ones I ride. Last year I saw a single other bike on my ride in to the office!

Judy bought me a Bike Week shirt at Daytona this year. I wore it around some H-D guys and one asked if I actually rode there since it is almost 500 miles from home.

* The only time I "trailered" - actually loaded into the bed of my pickup - my bike was hauling the fatally wounded Scarlett, my R1150R, to the dealer for her autopsy.

Of course one reason could be because I don't own a trailer.:icon_redface:

Best comparison I make for non riders about why I commute by bike is snow skiing.

I have just as much fun on my ride to work as a nice run down a ski hill. Every day. And just as much fun on the afterwork ride home. That actually connects very well with anybody that skiis.

Rode my Ducati today, and damn if it is not raining a bit. Hate to get that bike wet as I actually like to keep it clean. I'd rather ride the GSA in the rain.

If it's 38* and dry(ish) I'm on the bike. This is excepting having to run errands that need a truck.

I have a problem. I won't have a job June the 15th. :)

But, I've been riding 70 miles a day just to and from work ever since I got the GS..

BD,
I have 44,000 on the 2003 GS and still have the original FD. I service it myself and trust it completely. Now I'm not saying it couldn't let go tomorrow, but I never consider that as a problem when I plan a ride. Then again I don't plan on falling and breaking my body either but we all know how that came out.
