View Full Version : Cowboy Country or California Dreamin'

Thinking of riding through eastern Washington, then down through Montana and Wyoming to the Denver area this summer. The other option is California -- Pebble Beach, or Lake Tahoe. (Same course offered in all three places.) I'm favoring the Montana-Wyoming, Colorado route, as I've never seen that part of your beautiful country. Been to California a half dozen times and have travelled the coastal highway down through SF and Monterey previously.

Be happy for any feedback I could get. Things to consider, things I may have overlooked (which would be just about everything, since I know nothing at all of those regions and only got the green light from my incredible wife about 3 hours ago), weather considerations, etc.

This will be my first major long-haul on a bike, so I'm thinking 300 miles/day would be the right pace. Want to do the secondary highways, mostly.

I could also do the Lake Tahoe trip by taking a fairly direct route down from the Seattle area, then coming back up through Wyoming and Montana.

I will be on a Triumph Tiger 1050. I have all three bags and will throw a tent and sleeping bag on the back as well.

Fire away, boys!

Following the overwhelming response to this thread, I knew everyone's life would be better if I just went ahead and went. So off I go, tomorrow morning. Leaving Vancouver Island early, heading down the Olympic Pennisula to Northern Oregon tomorrow. After that, I'll go diagonally to the Bend area, south via Crater Lake to Mt Lassen National Park, and finally to Lake Tahoe. I have packed the camera and the netbook, but I have no idea how much use either will get. I would like to promise a ride report, but who knows.

The trip following my conference will be more than twice as long. All told, I should do about 3500 miles over the next two and a half weeks.

Speaking for myself, of course, I'm sorry 'bout the lack of response. I've had no experience north of Eureka Cal or west of Yellowstone. So I wouldn't have been much help. (I did go sking once at Whisler):)

Hope your trip is a success and you post up as often as you can.
Stay safe!

Thanks Arby.

I think I mismanaged my tone. I understood that it was a a lack of experience in the geographical area, not a lack of good will. I posted a similar question in the appropriate regional forum on ADV and received some useful pointers.

It's pounding rain here at the moment, but then again, it often is.

Either way sounds pretty good to me. But I guess I would opt to see the Pacific, since I never have.
