View Full Version : FirstGear jacket sizing question (boring)...
I was going to buy a FirstGear leather jacket but it looks like the one I was saving up for is now discontinued. I like the FirstGear stuff since it comes in tall sizes.
As to sizing, apparently they now mix and match between S-M-L and 42-44-46. But their website and the sizing charts I found on e-tailer sites is all S/M/L referenced.
For reference, I have the Kilamanjaro (sp?) in a L(arge)/T(all). My suit size is a 42/long. I'll the place I was planning on ordering from later in the week to see what they say. I looked at www.newenough.com but they have slim pickin's on the F-Gear gear...must be changing over to the '06 lineup.
Any clues would be welcome.
FYI: I really like everyone's contributions in the Back Room. They're very edifying.

I am not quite sure what your questions is, but I have some First Gear stuff. I am average height and wear a size 44R suit and the XL Kili jacket and XL FG Meshtex jackets both fit me fine. So I would "size up" a size with First Gear, and most other motorcycle-specific stuff. With BMW stuff I sometimes have to "size up" two sizes.

I work for Tucker Rocky and First Gear is our exclusive brand & line.
Which jacket are you looking for? If it's discontinued we *might* have some left as Closeouts at bargain prices.
We can't sell direct to the public but any TR dealer could order it for you, whether it's a current model or a closeout. New Enough is one of our dealers, as is MotorcycleCloseouts.com. Both are run by great people and they are always good places to check for bargains.
I might can help with your sizing question if you'll send me your chest & waist size and any info on what fits best...Regular, Tall, Short. Do you like a snug or loose fit? Will you be wearing sweaters or sweatshirts under it?

Thanks DarthRider. I thought I wanted the Z-Pilot but the new Horsepower jacket looks fine and is less $$$. I would opt for the looser fit most all of the time.
It looks like F-Gear has changed some jacket sizes from the S/M/L catergorization to a numerical scale, i.e., 42-44-46-etc.
My question is this: What does Large/Tall = in the new numerical system? I assume F-Gear didn't go with the European sizing scale...???
I have a First Gear Z-Pilot size Large Tall. I am 6'2", 180 lbs. The jacket fits a bit snug. I can squeeze my Aerostitch Kanetsu vest underneath, but its a very tight fit. I normally wear a 42 long jacket.
I found mine on Ebay a couple of years ago. It was a prior year's model that someone was clearing out. Great jacket with good venting. I wear it in temps between 60 and 85. Under 60 I wear a Belstaff, and over 85 I go to First Gear Mesh.

I just bought a new Kilamanjaro Air jacket but tried a lot of leather jackets also. I have found the sizing of the textile jackets to be generous and found the leather to be tight. I can get by with an XL in textile but would require a 52 or xxl in leather.

A public thank you to DarthRider for his suggestions on my search for a jacket!
Now if I could just stop working and start riding...maybe by the end of April.

Hope it all works out Fly!
Let me know which jacket you get, then give a test report later on.
