Will be celebrated in some style tonight, here in Eastbourne. It happens to also be the day chosen by my former co-workers to give me a liquid send off.
Cheers!

From a speech by Sir Winston Churchill in 1933 (as with much of his work, it has amazing relevence today). re: St. George
I have been wondering what would have happened to him and his story if he had lived now-a-days. St George would have arrived in Cappadocia accompanied, not by a horse, but by a secretariat. He would have been armed, not with a lance, but with some flexible formulas. He would, of course have been welcomed by the local branch of the League of Nations, and, encouraged by them, he would have proposed a conference with the dragon. He would have made a trade agreement with the dragon and would certainly have lent him a lot of money raised from the Cappadocian taxpayers. The question of the maiden’s release, which is very important in the story, would no doubt have been referred to Geneva. It being understood that the dragon reserved all his rights in the meantime. Finally, St George would have been photographed with the dragon, inset the maiden.
And "Cheers" back at you Si.
Si - Happy St. George's Day. And I hope your sendoff brings you fond memories.
Which helmet company in Europe had the St. George's Cross helmet. Was it Arai? I always thought that its basic simplicity was hot. Or was that cool? Either way, I wish it was offered here in the colonies!
Have a pint for me, and I'll have two for you!

Brown beer (sorry, not room temp) was hoisted in your honor this day on the west coast of North America!

Thanks. A few good brown beers were hoisted, I can tell you that. The flag of St George fluttered proudly and my former colleagues did me proud..
Bill, I love the 1933 piece by Churchill. What on earth would he make of 2009?
Si.
Si, I would've hoisted a brew my self, if I'd read this post in time. I look forward to hoisting a brew with you in person, one of these days!

Yes, please do. I rather like the thought of "synchronised drinking", even though many miles apart :thumb:
Cheers!

We don't celebrate "King George's Day" here in the Colonies.
But Dean told me that forthwith we would be celebrating something called "King Dubya's Day". Some of us I suppose.
Wonder what Sir Winston Churchill might say about that?
But as Donson says, we will hoist one or many tonight at Peckerheads in your and old King George's honor...

Gord, not sure, but you may be referring to a company called Davida, they make some "Stunning" headgear, I went to their web page I didn't see the St George Cross but they had a few with the "Union Jack" (I hope my terminology is correct) Den

Dave, it's Saint George (rather just any old King) who slayed the dragon, rescued the maiden, and along the way gave us the English flag. The St Georges cross.

The St Andrews cross is the Scottish flag (have patience, you'll see where this is leading..).

After the Union of the two countries, we sort of laid one flag on top of the other and came up with the "Union Flag".

Gord, you're right (again!), it was Arai who did the George's cross paint job..
Cheers,
Si.

That's one sweet lid. If I ever get around to building the bar in my basement that I want, I would love to decorate it with helmets. One of these babies would be nice! But not the one I am thinking of. There was a full-faced baby with the Saint George Cross. I can't recall if it was Arai or Shoei but it was one of the name lid co's. I assume it is discontinued as I can't find it on their European websites (or I am blind or stupid or both).
