Trekked out to the American Film Institute Silver Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland last week and enjoyed a Stella Artois while watching the new Neil Young concert movie "Heart of Gold" - what an outstanding experience.
It's basically a concert movie from a very recent series of concerts in Nashville, made at the time Neil had gotten a diagnosis of a brain aneurysm but before it was operated on. Very introspective - the second half featured some of his classics (Heart of Gold, Old Man, The Needle and the Damage Done) and throughout Emmy Lou Harris provided some of the backing vocals - a lot of acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo - just really great stuff - highly recommended, although you will probably also have to trek to an art house to find it, or else wait for the video.

I can't wait to see that Bob, I've heard nothing but good things!
Neil may look like 40 miles of bad road these days, but he's still Neil.
Thanks,
Dave

I love Neil Young also...I'll be looking out for the DVD.

Heart of Gold and his other songs were a part of my life, and life-style, when they were first released. A different time and place that I hope, in some ways, to get back to some day.
Looking forward to it as well...

Still a daily part of mine. Hell, I never left. The music from that era has never been replaced, and probably won't ever be. There's nothing better (well, there's a few things...) than being in the shop fooling around with your bike, getting ready for a trip you've planned with your best pals, with Neil Young playing loudly on the stereo. Only trouble with where I live is, all the hippies are old. But they still get wild. I host a radio program over here on the left side from time to time, and play some great stuff from the days of Triumph high pipe 500's and those sweet Yamaha twin 2 strokes! Life is still far out!

Geez. Whooda thunk someday we'd be the old men.
I played R & R for a living (not all that good a living, either) from '66 through about '72. Good music, pretty women, cheap shit, nothing like AIDS to worry about. Man! Life was good!

Yep, life is still good. Just grab it by the throttle and twist it until you're laughing inside your helmet. We're older but not done yet by any means.
Look me up when you're up here, Ed. I'm usually somewhere between Laytonville and Pt. Reyes, hooning around, destroying expensive rubber.

Neil has always been one of my favorites. I saw the trailer for the movie and can't wait to see it.
Anyone read Shakey, the biography of him? Great read if you are a fan of his work. He semi cooperated with its writing, so it is pretty legit.
Jeff
Thanks Will... when I'm heading up that way will let you know to see if you're available...
