Makes you wonder how many talented people there are without all the crap and baggage that goes with what we have to listen to. It's another Paul Potts story.

WOW.
Someone at work told me to look this up, and I thank you Doug for posting it.
There was a segment on the CTV news in Toronto tonight on Ms. Boyle. I didn't hang around to watch it. Mistake on my part. A feel good story to be sure. What I liked was the honesty of the judges who admitted they had already written her off before she sang, only to receive the shock of their life. Just goes to show how easy it is to judge too quickly and miss a diamond!
Great post!

DD, thanks for posting that. It's not a show I watch so without this I would've missed it. Which would have been a shame.
Cheers mate!

It made the rounds at work for us.
But I used your post link at home to have our 18-year-old watch. Life lesson #34,728. He was impressed, very impressed.
Thanks, Doug.

I hope she leaves her damn eyebrows alone. She's fine as she is!:eusa_clap::eusa_clap::eusa_clap:
What I wonder, is how someone with such a powerful voice was so unknown? We see so many people every day. How many of them have something like this tucked away?

I hope she becomes a hit.... but the skeptic in me has doubts. I do think she can use this sudden notoriety to develop some form of a career. And she may think that is a blessing indeed. This lady is blessed with talent. And the shock value of her performance is gaining her notoriety. But a "star"? I think not.
In this day of video, I see example after example of the fairly good singers, but really pretty to look at, reach fame and fortune. I sure don't see many modern singers (sadly this is particularly true of women) that are not extremely physically attractive.
Plus today's concerts seem to be filled with dancing lines, pyrotech blasts and giant screen displays. This lovely lady fits that mold not at all.
CD sales without giant tours, maybe, seems unlikely to be a path to the top.
Makes me wonder if Aretha Franklin could break into show business today and be the success she was back in the day.
As I say, I hope I'm wrong. At least I hope she finds this creates opportunities that she finds more than satisfying. Her talent deserves it.
Cream will always rise no matter the container. IMHO

I certainly agree with the "ain't much to look at..." part!
And, as I said, I hope I'm wrong. But, as I also noted, the standards applied to women are less generous. Off the top of my head I can't think of a recent singing woman comparable in looks to Willie Nelson that's got a good career going.

Sure, sure NoRRmad. :037:
But did Cher look like that when she began her career.
Back to Willie as an example. I recall a movie where he was married to Dyan Cannon and a (very young) Amy Irving was his lover, touring with him. Slim Pickins was her daddy. Think a woman of far less than pretty looks could hope for such a role? Think women are treated comparably to men even if they are as talented?
But, like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

I agree 100% JC,looks are everything in our plastic, skindeep society. If this talented lady was a Hottie,She would be out there in the spotlight long ago.Sad commentary, but true.I still hope for the best for her.

Never judge a book by it's cover. I saw the vid a bit back and was enthralled. Truly a beautiful voice. I hope that however it enrichens her, it makes her life more comfortable. She cared for an ailing Father, worked hard, sang karaoke in a Pub to keep her voice sharp. She's earned a bit a luck.
