Just a thought; does anyone on our site know about the "Free TV" for computers and some handhelds. We are a house full of Mac's, and I'm just guessing that one needs a stinkin' windows machine to view it. :icon_redface:

We recently went through moving our Mac Mini to the 42" plasma! I've been a Linux user since 1996 and grudgingly used Windows. Christmas of 2007 I bought the Mini as a development platform for a business venture. Now my whole family is hooked.

Anyway ... I bought a DVI to HDMI cable to hook the Mini to the TV. I ended up using a program named SwitchResX to fine tune the resolution to used the whole screen. Some TVs are better than others at this.

The next purchase was a wireless keyboard and mouse. Make sure that you spend money here. The cheap wireless keyboards have a range shorter than most cables. Skip them. Get a bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz one. Expect to spend around $100.

Head to boxee.tv and download Boxee. This is a "10 ft interface" to many online media outlets. Make sure to download the "alpha" version to get the newest features.

If you have media in your iTunes library, Front Row is excellent! I wish it had an online component to pull in the video streams from the popular sites (like Hulu).

If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch get the Remote and Boxee apps. Boxee is simple but works more relaibaly than the little Apple remote. The Remote app is great as it allows me to control iTunes without having the hot plasma screen on.

Overall, it's a clunky and there is no way to get around having a real keyboard and mouse ... but it's getting better.

One other thing that's nice ... back catalogs. Boxee pulls video from CBS who has put both seasons of Twin Peaks online. I was 12 and 13 when Twin Peaks was one (meaning too young to care) but being able to watch it with a more mature eye is awesome.

Lori and I recently watched the entire run of Firefly with limited commercials. Good stuff.

My, my, my,

What a place we have here, is there a question a person could possibly ask that someone could not answer . . . well except for the one about what Dean did that day he was away from his wife.:pot: Not even Will knows the answer to that one.

Thank you all so much for your answers, what a great idea. I wonder if TV will eventually go 100% that way.
