I'm looking for an accurate air gage. I have about 6 of them around here and they all read different. Where can I find one that works?

Look for a quality digital gauge. If you find one, ensure the lug that depresses the valve isn't plastic. If that breaks, it's useless.
I still use an old style Michelin pencil gauge. It's been close enough when I've compared to a digital one.
This one might be the best of both worlds...though I've never used one.

yeah, so my "girlie" question is ...what does it matter?
Pick one you think is the "most" accurate and always
use it. Trash the rest of 'em. Sorry, forgot guys generally
don't throw things like this out :-)
I'd bet if we all meet at Arby's and use our individual
tire guages on one tire, most of 'em will give different
readings...who's is best?

The best one is the one that always gives consistent, repeatable readings. Much more important for we street mortals than the difference in 39 and 37 PSI.
My expensive digital was probably 100% consistent, but went crazy after a couple of years.
Now I use a mid-price analog gauge with re-set button and 1ft. long hose. It "seems" consistent but I don't plan on any scientific comparisons either.
I would only use the pencil/stick type if I was desperate.

Yes, the analog is what I use, and agree that the pencil/stick type is a desparate measure!

Here's the one I've stood by for ten years now. It's always in my tank bag. The accuracy of digital gauges and the ease of reading suit my lifestyle. I have the analog gauge with the 12" hose hanging on my shop wall.
How many here check their tire pressure every time they ride? I do. I've had a plethora of flats, a cornucopia of deflation over the decades. You can't tell if you have slow leak unless you check, and the digital does the trick quickest, like when I'm in earnest to whip the German horse.

I've had 'em all annalog and digital; but, the BMW analog pressure gauge that measures in bar'psi is the best I've owned. Just my opinion Mr. Guyan. But the absolute best of the best is the TPS on my RT. It don't get no bedda.

I just ordered this one $19.95 from Summit. It's an Auto Gage.

I use an analog I stole from the car race team while in the garage and a digital on the road. Like Will, I check every time I ride.

I use this one: LINK (http://www.getagauge.com/DialTireGauges.cfm)
It is nice because it is ruggedized, has a pressure relief valve, and you can add air without removing the gauge from the valve. The chuck also locks on to the valve. Good piece of gear! :023:

Bob, never see one of those. I like it!
I use the same one as Bob. I've had it for a few years and its been tossed around quite a bit. It lives in my saddlebag along with the Cycle Pump and Stop&Go repair kit.

One thing I noticed on the one Blackdog ordered...look at the little support for the needle shaft. I never saw that on a gauge before. Sort of like an outboard primary sprocket bearing on a drag bike...or Bonneville bike like Randy's.
A small thing but it helps make that gauge rugged and a damn smart idea.
Doggy, find one of the aftermarket black rubber rings that shockproofs the case if dropped.
You be rockin'!

Back in the '70's I stopped a gas station with my friend to check the tire pressure on his Yamaha. He was using the station air gage. He kept putting air in while saying "man, this tire was really low". When he was done I checked it with my gage and it showed 105 lbs.

I read in motorcyclist or one of the other rags and a tire rep said the best guage is the one you will use all the time in fact he was adament that the metal pencil ones were good because they are so handy just keep them clean. Ive used one for years because its so handy I keep it in a pen slot in my tank bag or on my arm slot in my "stitch" for use on every ride.
Bob, thanks for the link.

The digital and analog gauges I have cannot easily attach to the valve stem on my Bonneville wire-spoked wheels.
I ordered one with a right angle stem... should slip right on.

The pencil gauge fits in a pocket and doesn't rely on me having to carry extra bags etc. I have a digital one just like the one in WW's snap-on link, and the pencil gauge was always very close when I checked them together as a QA exercise. It's easier to carry and I'm confident it does what I need it to do.
The digital one then broke...the little tongue where it compresses the valve snapped off. Useless now. It stays under the seat 'cause it also has a small light in it.

I own and have used both pencil and analog gauges but I have settled on what I beleive to be the most accurate method:
I remove the valve stem cap, then drip a gooy loogy onto the valve stem, using a special plastic tooth pick that I aquired in the orient, I hold down the valve stem needle for 1 finger/thumb snap, creating a spit bubble. Then using a micrometer, I measure the diameter of the spit bubble. Taking the measurement and applying a little math to compensate for air temp, local elevation, current barametric presure and sometimes a few other obscure measurements, I am able to calculate with certainty the air pressure somewhere in the universe.
Old Poopinshoe proverb says: Man with two pressure gauges never knows his tire pressure.

Cheap, accurate, simple, Presta or Schrader valves, bar or PSI, and measures down to a tenth of a lb.
I use it on all my bikes/bicycles/cars/blowup dolls.
Helps to have a 90 degree stem on the wheels (stock on KTM).
