View Full Version : Introducing myself

Hello from the east coast.....Northern Virginia to be exact. I saw the reference to the cafe in an ADVrider thread and was drawn to the forum.

I moved to NOVA a few years ago figuring it would be fun and exciting, and all it seems to have done is grind me to a pulp.

I manage a small facility that makes secure computing equipment for (who else?) the feds. Job will probably self destruct in a few months.....

I returned to riding eight years ago after a 20 year hiatus (same old story) and have had many bikes since but currently ride a R1200GS, a S2R1000 Ducati, have but have not ridden in dirt a KLX400 (DRZ400). My wife rides a R1150RS we bought from a FBI agent.........

It has been my dream (and was my Dad's never fulfilled) to live in the SW either in New Mexico or Arizona. My idea of a great place is a Airstream on a few acres with a good garage, and solar power to be off the grid. Hence the attraction to the cafe, which I am already dying to visit. I know it is far more elegant than my vision, but it is the basic concept......

Married twice, currently over 5 years, 2 biological and 3 stepological children.

My wife and I believe you can never have too many motorcycles or musical instruments.

I am a trained machinist, I can weld a little, I do all my own wrenching because I am cheap and do not trust shop mechanics and make my way through all house repairs (EXCEPT HVAC)......

So that's about it.....hope to have some lively discussions and get to meet y'all on my rides around......

Thanks for listening.

P.S. I love pie....................

Yeah, and if you take I-40 (Route 66) through Amarillo...hollar!

Actually I have been to Amarillo once....in 1970........I was living in CA ( a looooong story) and packed a VW bug, pulling a junky wooden trailer built on a model A front axle and headed for home (Cleveland, OH). My new wife and baby huddled in the car (it was just before Christmas) and the winds howling across the plains we stopped in a diner on Rt 66 to get a cup of coffee. Lady there was kind and toasted us a cinnamon roll on the grill.

Someone put a song on the jukebox making fun of hippies (I had long hair). Proud to be a Okie from Muskogee? Anyway...colder than heck.........

I asked the waitress "I thought it was warm in TX?" She said yeah a thousand miles south in Corpus Christi...........

I probably got the facts all hosed up, but I think I was in Amarillo once...........love to come back again........

Jeff lad,

I was sure my stinking brother - Jeff, was opening another account. Boy oh boy, I was ready to drop on him like the way a minnow can drop a shark. :icon_redface: I keep forgetting that he is not 5 years old and being watched by his elder brother who is 12 years older than him. :icon_redface: Egads!

Anyone who has seen both of us together knows what I mean.

In any stinking case Jeff, Bonnie, (my) Jeff, and I welcome you to the Cafe. All I can tell you is that at my age I've made a number of mistakes, however being a member of this Cafe was not one of them.

Alternatively, if it's getting a little quiet, you can do just that and then standback..

Welcome, I hope you derive much pleasure from your time here.

Cheers,
Si.

Welcome Jeff. Hey, I need a little welding ...... just kidding.

The DC metro area generates money, but it is a meat grinder.

Anyway, glad you're here and look forward to your posts (No scooters, please)

Jeff,

Welcome from the low country of South Carolina. Glad to have you on board. If you only believe half of what you see and none of what you read here you'll survive.

You'll have to forgive Dave, every once in a while, he slips in one of his "Texas Porn" pictures...

Welcome indeed.

Don't listen to them about scooters. We lubs 'em here.

For a really good time post about how you have just learned that Czysc has a race-ready scooter to both sell and knock Ducati off the podium for a bargain price of $175k. That it comes equipped with a zero maintenance shaft drive; a 45 degree, single pin crank, air-cooled engine and a 42 degree rake.

Oh yeah, also mention it's really a H-D venture.

Actually we may have met already. We were members about a year ago of bmwbmw. Went to a couple meetings at Battleys (sp?).

I am happy to weld for anyone anytime, although attaching the rig to the bike to transport is an issue.

Anyone near the DC area is welcome to stop by.

My goal is to leave this place and get out away from the craziness.

Actually I have a fantasy to start a machine shop, train machinists apprentices (pass on the torch) and make some sort of motorcycle components. I actually for fun wrote a book about it (it really was BAD and it sits on a CD, not even my wife has read it) the locale: Albuquerque, of course.

So........I appreciate the welcome and hope to have fun...

BTW, I love scooters, my first "bike" being a C-50..........

More fun for $ than anything I have ever owned (and that includes the MG Midget I paid $1200 for)
