March 10 is turning out to be a bitter-sweet day.

What makes it sweet?

I am done work for the day (early!!)
I am heading on vacation to Cancun, Mexico tomorrow morning with wife and two daughters (and a load of friends)
The temps in my piece of the world are hitting 9C and higher. We have easily lost a foot of snow in the past 24 hours with more to come
I estimate I am 7 weeks away from pool opening.
I estimate I am 4 weeks away from my first ride of the year
My eldest, the lovely and talented Anastasia turns 18 on Sunday making her an adult
by legal definition

What makes it a bitter day?

My basement suffered some flooding due to the rapid melting of snow and all the rain. No major damage, but something I didn't want to have to worry about before going on vaca.
My daughter turning 18 this weekend. She will be of legal age to consume alcohol in Mexico (she needs to be 19 here in Ontario). I am not naive enough to believe she hasn't tried alcohol (I had my first at 16). But I do know she does not sneak into bars under age. Once in an environment where she is legal, will she be like her old man and be out of control? Fortunately, I think she is a smarter kid than I was (and she is an competitive
swimmer highly concerned about what she eats and drinks!)

Anyway, I am off tomorrow for 7 days of sun and fun. I will miss the Cafe. But hope to come back stoked to ride, and maybe with a few entertaining stories to tell.

Have a good one Gord..come back with a tan....btw you should be able to find an internet cafe down south to keep in touch.

When I think of a trip down to Mexico I think of an old favorite movie called Big Wednesday....and the donut scene...:003:

Gord,
Please have a Margarita for me. I love them but will only have them when it is hot outside. Have a good trip. Pics for us all when you get back!

Piece of advice for those with young kids - let them try alcohol early, at home and with you guiding them. Once the 'Rebellion' aspect of drinking is shown to be a fallacy they'll be less likely to flout your authoritah and slip out (unless they're going to do that for other reasons).

Just a thought. :) (My brothers and I got used to alcohol by age of around 10, mainly through draining the dregs the mornings after my parent's many dinner parties!)

Enjoy your holidays!! :D

Gord -

Sounds more sweet than bitter. Enjoy sunny Cancun.

I have not been down there since the hurricanes came through last year - interested to hear how the place is doing.

I have an 18 year old daughter as well - they are odd little creatures to be sure. There is quite a teen drinking scene in Cancun, but there is also quite a great cultural and tourism scene in the area. I would suggest keeping her occupied with day trips to nearby Indian ruins at Chichen Itza and Uxmal, over to Tulum and Cozumel - maybe some scuba lessons too. By the time she finishes all that the trip will be over!

Sounds like things are going great for you - take care and have fun! Bob
