Cycle World has long been my favorite "mainstream" moto-mag. I know David Edwards personally, have had a few things published there, and my old Norton hot-rod once graced the "American Fliers" section.
Being "for sale" is not the same thing as an obit, but it surely could be a step along that path. Let's hope not.
Edwards has always been a big fan of Brit & Euro bikes and has a nice collection. He has been "Grand Marshall" of our vintage bike club's annual rally and will be back again this year. Well, maybe.
It's going to be a long & painful trek out of the swamp in which our economy is mired, but interesting as well. And full of opportunities for the forward thinking.
Let's hope CW weathers the storm and prospers under new ownership.

Read all about it...

We should buy it :041:

Seriously - print media is going down the tubes fast. It's a shame to see.

For sure. On-line media is fine and has its place, but nothing will ever replace a cup of coffee and the morning paper, or a 6-pack and a good moto-mag!

An article in yesterday's National Post suggested that print media was not likely to be replaced by the internet, although the internet would drive significant restructuring of the industry.

Personally, I find reading encompasses more than just my visual senses. I love the texture of the paper between my fingers. I love the smell of the paper and ink - especially in old books. I love the way I can read almost anywhere without worrying about power, battery levels, glare, scrolling endlessly, and inane popups. And if I spill that particularly tasty beverage I am sipping at the time, I do not short circuit the whole works!

Electronic media delivery will never kill the power of paper in my world!

I'm riding the fence on paper vs. digital. I'm currently reading Lila on paper and Dracula on my iPod Touch. I'm making much more progress with Dracula as it's always in my pocket.

I do love the feel and smell of a book.

Since the Amazon Kindle (and the iPhone/iPod app) can do subscriptions, I'd like to see print mags start to offer those options. I like the timeliness of most print media (sometimes scooping the internet as a whole) but printing and moving all that paper is starting to seem superfluous.

Ain't that the truth... amen, brother. :pope:

A hearty agreement to these sentiments! I've only been able to read from a CRT lately. There is something absolutely special about holding a book. It is definitely among my top 10 experiences, and the screen will never replace the tome as a satisfactory reading experience!

I am an avid reader, and there is no way a computer can replace a good old-fahoned book for Me.Put up the hammock in the beer garden, pop a cold beveridge, and settle in for the duration.Ahhhhhh

I'm reading Lila on paper right now as well! Pm me if you want to discuss it so as to avoid the heartbreak of thread hijack!

I generally read from my iPhone as a last resort. I'll admit that I do have the New York Times app. Handy in a pinch, but it will never replace the experience of print for me.

Never be concerned about "thread jacking" on any thread I start. To me, all this is just sitting around a big virtual beer table anyway, where lots of things are discussed. Sometimes all at once.
I read Dracula when I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. It was an old hospital that was built in the late 1800s and had a very, VERY creepy feel to it. Dracula had an equally creepy feel to it in those surroundings! I was seeing bats and mists coming in under the door...

I have an extensive library. Some volumes are over 200 years old. That said, and you know I love bound books and spend money on them monthly, we are all Neanderthals here. The future is not dictated by those like us, who love the fragrance of a musty book, and who take pleasure in seeing the date of publication in print. The future belongs to the Millennial generations, all of whom live on Facebook, My Space, who text message constantly, and read very little. This is all very sad, but it's the future. I see it in all my 22 and 26 year olds' lives and friends. I still think Blue Tooth is a cheap, thin pair of dentures.

I'll continue to subscribe to all my fave mags until they stop publishing. I'm told Cycle World is one of the few mags that this particular conglomerate owns
that remains in the black. I also still mourn the loss of CYCLE mag.

[QUOTE=Griffon;82892] I've only been able to read from a CRT lately. QUOTE]

I just went out to the shed and read my CRT. I just put it on the KTM. It said"Coolant Recovery Tank by Thumper Racing".

Not much room for anything else!! I like a good book, but wouldn't get much pleasure from reading from my CRT, I don't believe.:)
