Ride report won't be on the level of one of DJ's because I don't like to stop. Beautiful up here today, perfect for a ride to the Bear Wallow and beyond.
Left the house about 10 AM on this beautiful Sunday across the Northern Az plains, elevation about 7,500 Ft. heading for the hi country ahead.

The Nutrioso Log Cabin Works on the side of the road between Springerville and Alpine. They are built in the old fashioned way with each log scribed and hand fitt to the rest, no chinking is required that way, they are booked until late '07.

I don't know about that Dean...seems right up there close to a DJ kinda post:eusa_clap:
Thanks for the ride report. So strange to see photos of dry roads, blue skies and no white stuff at 8,500 feet this time of year.

Dean, great ride report and pics if you aren't careful you are going to have a bunch of us moving there.:eusa_clap:
Great report Dean. I think I need to find my way to Arizona at some time in my life! Especially in winter!

looks like a great part of the world and perfect weather for a perfect ride.
I would like to ride across the US one day. This sort of ride report just gets the mind thinking again about organising it.
Great report and lovely pix.
Like you, i don't like many stops unless i am on a multi day ride and can stop and smell the roses! Other than that, it is go, go, go.

for those of you that haven't ridden with Dean (yet), for an indication of his riding style, check out the "chicken strips" on the shot of his rear tire. Or, the lack thereof, of ANY strip unused on that tire. It really WAS a nice day, wasn't it?

I enjoyed your ride Dean. This was my favourite stretch.:eusa_clap:

Great write up and photos.
On 89 or 89A heading east from the North Rim, near the intersection, I think, there is an out cropping of tall rocks that look like they should be falling over any second.
Between some of these rocks , some settlers, I suppose, had filled in the gaps with logs and rock and mortar to make a home or something.
It is very close to the roadside, if you've been by it, you couldn't miss it. I've got pictures of Jude and me and the Buell there, but unfortunately I don't have a scanner, and wouldn't know how to work it if I did.
Do you know of this settlement and it's history?

Bob, don't know the story, but it is near the Vermillion Clifts on the Indian Reservation. The riding in Arizona is fantastic.

Dean,
Thanks very much for taking the trouble. Taking pictures while on a ride can be a real hassle. Sure glad you did, though.

Ron, the temps Sunday were 22 F in the morning, but when I left for the ride at about 10 AM the low 50's and the low 60's back at home. In Alpine, about 50 and at Hannigans Meadows the mid 40's. Bear in mind that the humidity up here is very low so not as chilling as Seattle.
Have you figured out your route yet? Letr me know.

By Jove, Illinois is flat and boring. :022:
No, Trust me when I tell you that Florida is the most flat and boring. However, it was 75 and sunny today.

DJ - couldn't agree with you more. I came across this pic of me on an ST that Kevin (KBC68) took at the launch last spring at Open Road BMW in Newmarket, Ontario. The ST looks better to me now than it did when I first saw it.

Dean-O.
Hi from DC. Thanks for the great photos - making me homesick! I am stuck here for the rest of the month and it was darn cold today! I have my Yamaha with me, however, and it is supposed to be warm this weekend so I should be able to have a little fun - nothing like your beautiful Sunday ride, though!
Take care.

Well, today it was in the hi 60's sunny no bugs or humidity and no flat or boring roads...na na naa na na................
Dean
The humidity keeps the skin from drying out, the bugs are protein,.....I can't put a good spin on it, I'd gladly give up 10 or 15 degrees and flat in exchange for what you've got.
