View Full Version : fiberglass bodywork repair kit suggestions
I'm in the process of changing out some the plastic on my GSXR to Sharkskinz.
The replacement "plastic" is actually fiberglass.
One the tabs on the tail section is about to break off.
To the point: can anyone recommend a cheap fiberglass repair kit? and any must do's or don't do's?
thanks.

Wally World has economical fibreglass repair kits.Just be sure to remove all paint, wax, act. in the area of the repair to get a good mechanical bond.Take Your time and do it right, and You wont have to do it twice.

The kits at Walmart work pretty good as Don said. +1 on removing wax, etc and rough it up, needs some tooth to stick. Just don't go nuts with the resin, it could soften up the existing material, and don't mix it "hot" (too much hardener) DAMHIK :)

If it is just a broken/cracked tab of sorts, you may want to just use a two-part methacrylate structural adhesive instead of gettng all into a resin and fiberglass mess.
Of course it all depends as to what you are repairing or re-enforcing, and where on the part the repair is taking place.
Use something like Devcon Devweld. It will literally WELD all sorts of plastics including simple fiberglass. This is not a glue but a structural adhesive.
