Chris just called from Infineon, Brian on San Jose's now 140 RWHP R1200S HP 2 Sport raced in two races this weekend.

Open Twins, all 1098's plus Brian on the HP2 Sport won it going away.

Formula Pacific 3rd for a podium, GSXR 1000's etc. The announcer declared that was the first time that a BMW had ever made podium in the history of Formula Pacific.

With now extremely limited racing budget they only raced the two races plus practice.

Chris said that the GSXR 1000's are no longer pulling the Beemer in the straights in Formula Pacific.

Another little tidbit that he said I could mention is he has been running Mobil 1 5/30 synthetic oil that they buy at Cosco. That is one of the little tricks they used to win the Boxer cup race at Daytona.

With the oil being thinner, less internal resistance results in more HP.

True, I just put a bleed off on my oil feed line so when the pressure gets higher in the upper rpm range it will bleed of some of the pressure and keep the motor from wet sumping which can cause up to a 10 hp + loss.

Kind of what I thought. Since the bike is in constant motion the cooling needs are a little different than on the street.

This is history in the making! A freaking oilhead BMW making the kind of power that kept the best superbikes at bay (OK, most of them). Great result for BP46 and SJBMW Racing. Totally stoked, I am, Dean!

Kind of makes you wonder why the factory are buggering about with the new four. They could enter the 1200 twin in WSB, think of the kudos that would earn..

Si, an interesting little tidbit.

San Jose BMW has always been able to build faster bikes than the factory, in the 70's we built engines and sent them to the factory in Germany because ours were more powerful.

The flat twin will never make the power of the inline four. It may run with the hyper bikes with an excellent pilot and magically-fettled engine by a unique shop, but it'll be easy to get 200 rwhp from the four. OK, relatively easy.

Interesting to note, Dean, that James Randolph, the second place winner, "came up" with Brian Parriott primarily racing at Sears Point Raceway, now Infineon, when they were lads. They were always close in talent. James races in the AMA series, too. Rivals on the track, friends off track. James' dad is a friend of mine. He's about your age, Hoon doggie, and was until recently an instructor for Reg Pridmore. The guy is blazingly fast. I don't know how he rides that fast. I can barely follow him for 10 miles along the gnarliest of river-following twisties before I have to back off before I cash my check. One time he was riding ahead of the pack, as usual, and he blasted back to us in time to warn us of the radar trap he "detected" with his Valentime 1. He saved our whitie tightied arses from heavy fines and maybe even handcuffs. Hey, it happens, as I saw at the recent USGP in highway 1. CHP, the traffic fine professionals in Cal, take no prisoners.

Recently Big Jim, James' role model and gold card carrying professional hooligan, went down on his KTM 950 Supermotard, around the same time I went down on my KTM 950 Adventure. Isn't it special - we both broke the same bones! Probably from the same Arai hit! I think he's riding a bit more cautiously these days; I know I am. I have a wonderful track photo of Jim leaving sparks going into turn 11 at Sears Point with his titanium knee sliders!

Point is, Brian's old pals (and I suspect some of Nate Kern's too) are taking a serious look at these BMW's. This is going to be very unexpected by BMW corporate, but welcome big time. The podium finish Brian took will mark in history when the rest of the Japanese and Italian machine riders took their first serious look at BMW as a competitor. They ain't seen nothing yet!
