View Full Version : Quick Disconnect?

Broken quick disconnect! I was finally going to change my worthless fuel line clamps last night so I removed the cover on the right side of the bike (you know, the one that covers the quickdisconnects). I touched the lower disconnect to disconnect it and it popped. I thought "Hmm....that was easy - I hardly had to do anything". After replacing the crappy crimp clamps I couldn't get the one line to re-connect. It turns out that the quickdisconnect broke - leaving me without a bike for tomorrow! No dealers open on Sundays.
I'm wondering if I should 'rig' up a temporary fuel line by removing the disconnect and running it straight through, or just suffer a commute in the car tomorrow and stop by a dealer on the way home. :icon_cry: I wonder if the dealers even stock them, and how much it will run me. I really hate commuting in a car, where's the fun in that?

I had my service done just before my Snowy ride and the service tech broke one of mine doing a final check...he said it happens often.
They had run out of stock so he put one on from another bike to get me by...and I popped in the other day and had a new one fitted.
There seems to be a lot of pressure in the lines once the fuel pump kicks in..so be careful with what you do...but a temporary fix should be ok...IMO.

Yeah, I think so too. Just clamp it off real well.
You should be able to rig something with a male-splice tube inside the fuel lines...copper line or fuel line fitting. You might have to use a fuel line "T" and blank off the "l" part of the "T".
Your local hardware store probably has a straight barbed brass fitting that would work.

When mine failed on my R, I was riding! Fortunatly, I was about a half mile from home so I just pushed it home. I'd just had the tank off the weekend prior installing driving lights. I must have not quite got it together right.
Still, fuel was everywhere, and I'm lucky there was'nt a fire.

If you use the barbed brass fitting Darth mentioned, be sure to double clamp it. Based my experience fixing broken air lines(120 up to 180 psi), i don't believe a single clamp will hold. You don't wantta get sprayed with presurized gasoline.

Well I was lazy today so I guess I'm driving to work tomorrow. My closest dealer is Battley Cycle - a Harley/BMW/Yamaha/Buell/Ducati dealer (wierd combo) will be getting a call tomorrow, and my wife works near there so I'll send her up to pickup the disconnect. Her boss rides a Harley so she'll probably get him to 'show' here where it is, probably take her!
It's probably a good thing that I'll drive tomorrow - low is projected to be around 20 - not that it would stop me from riding in though. I've never missed a ride from too cold temperatures - only the white slippery stuff on the roads. My personal low temp for a commute to work is 13F. :104:
