Here's a major rant - it's not "Torino" - it's "Turin"!!!

I live in the USA. I speak English as my primary language. I pronounce foreign words in accordance with standard American English useage.

I say Paris, not "Paree".

I say Lisbon, not "Lisboa"

I say "Rome", not "Roma".

I say "chevro..." um, never mind.

Anyway - screw NBC for electing to say "Torino" instead of Turin. Who do they think they are?!? It's Turin, as in "shroud of Turin". Torino is the name of a cheesy Ford car from the 70's, or if you are Italian, it is a city in the alps!

End of rant. It's TURIN!

You think that is stupid? How about this:
1. 6 minutes of chopped up athletic coverage between commercial breaks.
2. They have to fix coverage issues due to weather on Sunday and who do they interview? Jerome Bettis! Give me a damned break. These Olympic athletes devote their lives to this event, there are hundreds who never will get the limelight, and they decide to do a shameless self promotion with Bettis (who will be a co host with Bob "I am the most important person in the world" Costas, next football season) and his parents.

They couldn't be creative enough to interview some world class athletes that actually have some talent and might be interesting? The Superbowl was over a few weeks ago.

I am so disgusted with their coverage, it reminds me why I do not watch TV and haven't for years.

Rant over.

Jeff

Bones - Groovy rant!

I know what you mean about Costas - he's one of these "full of himself" guys that NBC seems to breed (Gumbell, Lauer, etc, etc...) The guy I feel bad for is Jim Lampley - he is perfectly capable of anchoring the prime time coverage, but they have Costas doing it all. I wish they would do a human interest piece on Lampley's beautiful bride, Bree Walker. She is a local newscaster (used to work the San Diego market) with a condition leaving her with conjoined digits - kind of kinky, wouldn't you say:

Bob, if I remember correctly, Jim Lamply & Bree Walker were co anchors in LA, married to other people, screwed around & had an affair, & were shocked when they were dumped off the air.

My ex wife had a Gran Torino Elit in college. Big funky 2 door thing. I tuned that baby up to where it was getting 19 mpg in the 70's, not bad for a V8. I had no car & rode a bike at the time. Was actually a pretty decent freeway cruiser, we pulled a UHaul trailer from FL to Los Angeles with it after college. She kept it in the divorce. I miss the car more than her.

That's why they are like Gods to me...

I'm sorry for your loss - of the Torino. I had a girlgriend back in 1980 or so who drove a Maverick - sort of a smaller, uglier Torino as I recall.

Bob,

So how do you feel about St. Louis? Louis Armstrong?

Here in Charleston we have Huger street. Pronounced "yew-gee". Local family of some note: Manigault... pronounced "man-ee-go". Downtown street is Hassel... pronounced "Hazel".

When in Rome... shoot Roman Candles.

In Texas, Houston is HEW-stun. In New York City, "Houston" is pronounced HOW-stun. You say potato, I say au gratin.

In Nebraska, near Omaha (pronounced Omaha), there is a town called Papillion. They all say Puh pill yun. Some would say it Pap eee yone.

I still think NBC broadcasts have reached a new low. Costas has got to go.

I think NBC's coverage SUCKS. Hasn't had me too interested in watching it - especially when they aired NASCAR qualifying instead of the Olympics last weekend!
