This comes from the "Oilheads" Email list. Can't speak to the veracity, but I pass it on:

From "Eurogossip" -
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=2998&Page=1

"Moving back to the main market, watch out later this year for the launch of
the new naked R1200R, which will finalize the move from the now ageing
1150cc-powered range. The new model will have an identical engine to the
R1200GS with 100 bhp on tap. The bike is likely to use the Telelever fork
and the latest single-sided Paralever shaft-drive system from existing
models, but it will be a lot lighter. The styling will also make the bike
look more dynamic and probably be along the lines of a Buell in terms of
compactness. Expect to see the bike at the Cologne show latest, but an
earlier launch could be on the cards."

Lighter, and if it has the R1200S ABS brakes without the servo but carry
hard bags, it'll be a very nice naked sport-tourer.

this same quote has made the rounds to most of the popular sites. It's all guesswork, because nobody's got anything - spy pics, "leaks" from insiders, et al. Adv Rider, R1150R.net, Raptorsandrockets.com, 2WF.com - all had nearly the same paragraph in quotes. We have, here among us, probably the most reliable semi-insider on any/all BMW news pertaining to new releases and such. I think his last name is "Mole". I'm waiting for the serious spy pics from Europe, which usually start to appear 6 mos before the Intermot show. Heavily disguised & covered in gear, just as the F800 & R1200RT spy shots, we'll see them as soon as the snow begins to melt over there.
My best guess is a GS engine, 50-75lbs lighter than the last R1150R, choice of ABS/no ABS, and later a serious "streetfighter" version (like the Rockster, but more than cosmetic) with ST or S engine tuning. Standard exhaust (no under-seat heaters), bag mounts, and a big round headlight. I predict we'll see pics in March. This pic is nice, but I think FAR from the coming reality.
Check this: basically the new R1200S, with K1200R headlights/tank, and the R1150R oil-cooler fairing, and ABS! However, very high rear pegs, very non-BMW turnsignals, and no bag mounts. Very nice photshop work (HugoVW from Pelican board, I think).

Collyer, good morning, yes that is a Hugo photoshop and the rest of your post is close to accurate, excellent job of reading between the lines.

A reliable source sent me to this site. He reports that what one can't make out in this picture, is the tubing is square and not round.

http://blog.bmw-motorrad-de.com/?eid=176165

The wheels shown, he reports, are an accessory. The standard wheels are the same as those on the RT.

I pulled both pics (the one from HugoVW & the one from Fganger's post) into photoshop, and they are one & the same. Different shadings & the sig has been erased, but still the same. The only "square" tubing I can see is on the Telelever, just like the soon-to-be-released R1200S. The first "real" pics of the R1200R will be from Europe, being heavily disguised test-mules (remember the first shots of the current RT?) shot at fuel stations & out of the back of autos. I think the new R will be like the ST - beautiful in the eye of the beholder, but not necessarily resemble the ST. Naked? Yes. Maybe an HP3 version? I think so. If the Rockster had had 25 extra HP & weighed 40lbs less, I think they'd still be selling them. I predict we'll see out-of-focus, shot-from-the-hip,low resolution spy photos in the next 60 days. Not photshop jobs. Tick, tock....

Well now you’ve done it – you’ve burst my bubble. :icon_cry: That’s what I get for wanting it to be so. But I’m sure you are correct, as I look closely at both images I can see that they are in fact, the same. My source even told me what models different components, like the headlight, were coming from.

I imagine that just because one works for BMW in the States, doesn’t mean the Father Land is going to share. :icon_cry:

Now I need to make another bubble.:)

Frank,

The more I look at that photshop RR, the more I like it. It would be a relaxed S, which if it has hard luggage, would be about perfect. One could always lower the exhaust.

Rob,

"A relaxed S" has a nice sound to it.:) I'm sure that whatever eventually arrives in the showrooms will be just fine. I guess I'm just a bit old fashioned (A lot old fashioned my Bonnie pipes in), and would have been quite happy with them just “updating” the R1150R.

If I imagine my R with 20 hp more, and 40 lbs. less, and a smile comes to my face. When my imagination adds updated brakes and suspension components, I'm positively giddy. :eusa_clap:

I see the tank, seat, headlight, shield from a K1200R.
A speed Triple exhaust.
Current R1150R oil coolers
Frame, engine, wheels, front end from the new R1200S

seriously, somebody just slapped that together from current bikes. Not that some of them are bad guesses (frame, engine, etc from new S) but it's not like any of that is earth shaking. :028:

A relaxed S is what the ST is.

When I first saw the topic title for this thread, I thought it was about a wristwatch...

Ok , I'll throw my wild assed guess in here. I'd say its more likely to me a more upright, naked version of the R1200S. Same relationship as the K1200R to the K1200S. Also guess the engine would be tuned for more low end torque and less high end horsepower, again like the K1200 series.

The running gear will be identical to the R1200GS, ie. same 100HP engine, tranny and rear drive unit. A relationship just like the R1150R and R1150GS. Lighter than the current R1150R...............

Dean,
Then no underseat exhaust?
I am guessing the harder angled esthetics will be part of the show.
How much lighter than the 1150R?

Are you allowed to say?
