View Full Version : Another Arai Helmet Question

My quest for a black medium Arai Quantum f looks like it won't happen.
Anyone wear a Quantum 2? Can you comment on how that fits compared to the Quantum f? My one time try on of the 2: I recall it feeling quite different than the f, but perhaps I was wrong.
Any input would be welcome.
Another question, too: The Shoei RF1000...any comments on that? The X11 is supposed to be great, but I am sure it is too narrow for me. The RF is supposed to be more like the Quantum in shape.
Obviously I will have to pursue trying these on, but I live in the land of "no high end helmets" and narrowing it down first would be helful. Thanks.

Hi Jeff,
I have this this Arai Quantum 2:

It's the Hacking model (Good name, no?) I like it a lot. I have a size Large and I paid $470 for it at DGY Motors (http://www.dgy.com/html/dgy_racing.html) located 10 minutes from my home. I like the size of the shell because it's a bit smaller than my other helmet (an HJC-14), and I find the interior to be very comfortable even for all-day rides. The visor lock is a little troublesome, because the latch is too small. Often, I don't even bother locking it, although I suppose I really should. The finish is excellent. I've calculated that I look exactly 5.7 MHP faster when wearing this helmet. Numbers don't lie :)
If you want, I can make the buy for you and ship it to you.
Bones,
The Arai generally fit my head a little snugger, but I went with the RF1000 because it is quieter than the Arai, and still fits very well.
Have been very pleased with my RF1000...you can find new ones on eBay (where I purchased mine) at much better prices than found in any retail outlet.
Also, changing face shields on RF1000, is very quick and easy.

Never heard of the Quantum 2...
I thought the last Quantum was the 'F'.
Or have Arai started using different names for different markets. (I hope not!)

Hey guys, thanks. The Quantum 2 replaced the Quantum f about 2 years ago. It is slightly different, but I can't recall the exact ways in which they say it is different. If I knew for sure that a Med 2 fit exactly like a Med f, I would just go with that. But I recall trying one on at a show once and it felt like it had a little different shape.
I will have to try on the RF1000 when they come in to the store near me in a few weeks. Indeed, I have heard they are quieter and fit similarly to the Quantum shape Arais. But trying on is going to be essential, I guess.
Thanks.
Jeff

RandyRandy,
Please forward your equation/formula used to determine the 5.7 MHP bump.
I recently purchased the "ARAI ASTRAL-X MOTORCYCLE HELMET ICE BLUE BLACK LG" and I'd like run some calculations as pertains to my particular model, in particular.
And does your equation/formula allow for a tinted shield or is it one-dimensional, i.e., clear shield only. I'm opting for the purple.
Thanks.

I know "Fly" is new, and as such I really don't know much about him. :028: But from this one post alone I can see he belongs here.:eusa_clap:
Welcome aboard - Frank

Indeed.....
Fly, apparently, the dark shield increases speed significantly. Even if the bike is sitting in the garage.

I don't really know what the differences are between the Quantum F and the Quantum II. But I do love my Quantum II. It fits my head very nicely. I also have the Shoei RF1000 but it has a bit of fore-aft play.

Bones,
I had an extra large Quantum F & recently (at the last bike show in Dec.) picked up an Arai Corsair in extra large. I know they are supposed to fit different head shapes, but both feel like they fit very well. If anything the Quantum F was just a tad tighter when new (my wife thought I was a chitmunk), the Corsair has been more comfortable faster.
IMHO, both are far too noisy to ride without earplugs. The Corsair has very good ventilation, as in better than the F, and also has a flawless build quality.
BTW, I have a huge head. Those one size fit all caps often don't fit me. Anyone who thinks they are properly fitting into an XXL Arai must be borderline circus material.

I have an RF1000 and a Scorpion EXO700 and I like the Scoprpion a little better.
1. Not as loud as the SHOEI
2. The Everclear shield does not fog.
3. Price $179
But the RF1000 has its advantages also
1. Cooler in the summer
2. A little lighter.
I end up using the Scorpion in the cooler months and the SHOEI in the summer.

I have an EXO 700 as well - the venting on that helmet is the best on any helmet I've owned - it actually vents and you can feel the airflow - very nice in the Phoenix Summer.
