All of this from motorcycle-usa.com :028:

Moving back to the main market, watch out later this year for the launch of the new naked R1200R, which will finalize the move from the now ageing 1150cc-powered range. The new model will have an identical engine to the R1200GS with 100 bhp on tap. The bike is likely to use the Telelever fork and the latest single-sided Paralever shaft-drive system from existing models, but it will be a lot lighter. The styling will also make the bike look more dynamic and probably be along the lines of a Buell in terms of compactness. Expect to see the bike at the Cologne show latest, but an earlier launch could be on the cards.

Watch out too for an HP4 sports bike featuring a tuned K1200S motor giving 190 bhp. Rumors also suggest an HP2 based on the R1200S, to complete BMW's High Performance range announced last year.

And more,

Moving back to BMW, they have let slip that they are working on a range of single-cylinder bikes to replace the F650, which could include an HP1 machine to compete in the Supermoto class. Expect, therefore, to see a belt-driven single of around 600cc with a conventional fork and suspension.

We have already reported in this column that BMW's joint venture with Aprilia still stands for a Pegaso replacement, which could mean that a Rotax engine may be used. Alternatively, there is of course the Aprilia V-Twin, although insiders say the Single concept is still favorite.

Rumours still abound of the long-awaited BMW entry to MotoGP. What we do know is that they have a three-cylinder engine developed by former Ferrari engineer Mauro Forghieri's Oral Engineering Company in Modena, Italy. With a change in regulations in 2007 and drop in capacity to 800cc, it could be an ideal time to join the battle, especially if the changes favour a triple!

I can prolly talk a little more about the new single cylinders now, BMW has stated flatly that they will be more than performance competitive. They have also stated without equivocation that in the USA market that the bikes will be price competitive.

Regarding the above mentioned HP2 version of the R1200S, we are talking in the neighborhood of 135-138 HP and significantly lighter that the upcomming R1200S with lots of trick Carbon Fiber and other parts.

This is like holding breath under water. The anticipation of the R1200R is damn near killing me. :104:

Here is a pic that I belive was photoshoped by Hugo VW over at Pelican.

Fun to speculate.

A nice single might make me reconsider the Hypermotard...

Dean,
I suspect you have seen the mystery beast, or at least real photos of it. Can we really expect the unnecessary and undesirable (for me) underseat exhaust that everyone seems compelled to use? Please tell me no.

Not a bad looking bike, if that photo shop pic is close. But I still think it lacks some of the beauty of the 1150R.

Bonester, I would not expect to see an underseat exhaust for the upcomming R1200R.............but.......I am not 100% sure. There was a push in the American quarters for a retro, ie a slash five toaster tank look but with modern parts.....IMHO, don't hold your breath however.

I think that the new R will be introduced concurrently with the new R1200S, I would not bet my pink slip on it though.

That Photoshop of R1200S looks a lot like the Speed Triple!
And it looks like they followed Triumph on the exhaust...the cans actually run along side of and slightly below the rear seat, sort of "splitting the difference".

The looks are great and I wouldn't change that on my Speedy but you do get some hot backwash up to about 80MPH.

So Dean. Speculate, if you will, on the "but it will be a lot lighter" part of this story. I'm still considering either a used ST or a new R (assuming an R shows) and would be moved more in the direction of the R were it to have a dry weight somewhere around 450 lbs or better. I weigh a bit less than a buck-sixty myself.

The new R will be significantly lighter than the R1150R........... and with a full Remus, you will see rear wheel HP's in the 90's with better milege, smoother shifting, smoother engine, better brakes, better handling and lots of other little things that make living with the bike worlds easier.

God Dean, I love it when you talk like that.

I've got a Remus Grand Prix and Cat eliminator on my 1100R and despite what some people have said about not being able to make a flat twin sound very good, I'm here to tell ya: My old gal, talkin' through the Remus will make you stop what you're doing and listen up.

Come on 1200R!

HP2 version of R1200S? That's what I'm talking about!!!:eusa_clap: The Aprilia RSV and Ducati 999 boys will wonder what is that strange thing with the double kidney nipping at their heels.

Sorry for the confusion. That's my brother's Adventure. However, I do have my name on one of those 990 Adventure with my KTM dealership.

Too bad it'll be a year or so until the 990 fuel injected motor is USA "certified".
Otherwise, the SuperDuke & 990 Adventure would already be here - now.
I'm leaning towards the 950 Adv (or possibly the 950 Super Enduro) for a street legal trail bike.

OOPS - thread hijack!

But NOT the HP2 Enduro, because $20k is WAY too much to spend on a second bike.
