Hey Everyone...

I read with much interest Kristi's posts on SPOT... and decided to get one too.

It just arrived today, while I was getting new shoes put on the KS (dual compound Pilot Road 2) at San Jose BMW in preparation for some longer distance touring. (Geesh, I keep reminding myself how fortunate I am to be close to the best BMW shop in the world!)

Brett and Chris were working on the new "toy" as they called it (one of the two R1200S HP race bikes)... sure looked nice... even when half disassembled.

I had the pleasure of taking out a loaner F800S (my first time riding one) while service was performed. Very nimble, peppy, slick transmission, nice sound. Took a spin to Santa Cruz... unfortunately it rained 50%... not something I enjoy much on Mountain roads, but still fun. As much as I was impressed by the F800S... gonna keep the KS. ;)

But back to SPOT... great device... I got the tracker service as Kristi did (sends your location every 10 minutes in real time to a Google map). Tried it from my backyard, and looking forward to taking it for a spin.

Kristi: Thanks again for sharing your posts on SPOT, including the maps, etc.. it was very helpful. Btw, sounds like you've had great success with SPOT transmissions to the satellites... where do you put SPOT when you are riding: 1) Externally exposed and secured to the top of a bag or other object 2) In a bag 3) Clipped to your belt 4) Other?

Thanks again.

Ed, if I am not mistaken, the loaner F800S that you road is the very bike that raced in the 8 hour at Daytona, plus dozens of other races, also it was my ride around bike at Iowa and Road America. Engine has never been apart.

Dean, SJ had two red ones... the one I rode has just a few miles... so it might not have been the race bike...

Interestingly, the seating/hands/foot positions were close to those of the KS...
