Boy do I hope this works. My stinking brother bought a '76 Honda 550 with only 1750 miles. It needed a bit of work after being stored for many years. He placed the fuel tank outside our garage door while he worked on the bike.

Now my brother is not a fast worker, when it comes to mechanics, so the tank sat there for a long, long time. One day it was gone. :icon_redface: Now brother Jeff is without his bike. Soon his older brother :pot: will be making him remove it from the garage and put it out in our storage barn - next step is the junk yard. :pot:

Here is where one of you, I hope, comes in. Does anyone have access to a tank for a Honda 550. At this point color means nothing. :icon_redface:

Thank you so much and good hunting. :eusa_clap:

Great place! Freaking huge! I like to wander around for fun. I can check it out if you want. If they have one, I can ship it to you. Or you can call. I know they have a building with nothing but tanks in it.

Roger,

Thank you so much for the lead. I'll keep out hope for a place a bit closer. Actually I never knew there were places like that - huge!

Frank, if the problem is just rust & corrosion, it might be much cheaper to have a local shop "slosh" the tank.
They thoroughly remove the rust, clean the inside, then line with a very tough, epoxy-like material.
Or if someone wants to do it himself, get a "Kreeme" tank lining kit. It's a PITA to do, but do-able. Would take the better part of a day, off & on. I'd guess the kits are around $35 or so these days...

Dave,

Excellent advice, however, my brother left it outside one day too long. It "walked away" from the garage. So when I say he needs a new tank, I REALLY MEAN IT. :icon_redface:

Maybe the guy took it away to be cleaned as per Dave's instructions?

Dave did you send someone down to help out?

Oops. Never make light of other people's misfortunes.

What sort of a-hole steals a gas tank? Or was the city being over-zealous with its trash collection?

Is this it Frank? I would be more than willing to win the auction if you do not have an ebay account and then have it shipped to your location.

Amen Brother, Amen,

Just to show the "POWER" - my brother won with the highest bid on the fuel tank; $83.00. Not too bad says I.

Now he is going to need to try and get the side covers which are painted to match the tank.

BTW, does anyone have a lead on some petcocks for the stinking tank? And no Dave, this is not like your pet rock.

Frank, I watched the auction until the end and was curious if you won or not, thats a good price for a tank that looked to be in good shape.

As far as the petcocks are you looking for factory or aftermarket? If aftermarket I would go with a Pingel, that's all I have ever run with no issues and I also have a Pingel guzzler on the land speed bike.

Frank if he has paint for the bike send me any side cover and I will paint them to match. I have some painting to do here pretty soon so I can try and do them at the same time.

Scott lad,

I will try and tell this to my stinking brother. I could not imagine being without a bike for this long, and if I didn't bid on it (using his account of course :) ) he still would not have it. As for petcocks, as long as they work says I.

I just could not think of a better group of critters to hang with then the folks on our Cafe site - I truly mean it. Oh yes! We have the exceptions, but no need to talk of Will and Dean now.

Thanks again lad,
Stinkin' Frank

Scott,
I had not gotten a chance to check them out, but even if the color is not exactly with the critter wants - who cares if we can get him wheels again.

Thanks again lad, I may make light of it and light of my brother, but he is the only one I have left. :( Oh well.
