Tomorrow I'm off on one of my biggest rides for the year....waa-hoo!..:eusa_dance:
It's with the guys that I do the Mount Hotham ride with...Boxerboy...Mick...etc...about ten of us.
There will be good riders on Blackbird's...K1200S's...Ducati's...and I promised that I'd ride slow so they can keep up...:003:
It's a three day ride interstate and up through the Snowy Mountains in N.S.W. and through the highest mountain peaks in Australia.
No I don't expect snow (but you never know)..:icon_eek:
After Keith's accident with the roo I've decided to mount a roo whistle..even though they probably don't work..you never know..:102:

I wonder if they work on these guys...Wombats..http://heraldsun.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,1658,5109660,00.jpg ..They're often on the road but at least they don't hop out in front of you.
I put two on some time back (whistles)..stuck under the oil cowls...one fell off..I pulled the other off while cleaning...and here's where I mounted it for the trip.

Also here is a pic of my puncher repair kit and what I have under my seat just in case I get a flat...
A Letterman..S/S screws..and a new large size air cylinder (equal to three small ones)..note the normal size one also in the pic..and some oil and oil filler cap key
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1989.JPG
All I'm taking is my small seat bag with wet weather gear (and hoping I don't need it)..Mr Sheen..Winter gloves...Tooth brush..Undies..and iPod etc..:020:
I'm back in a few days...I won't get time to stop and take many pics like usual..but I should be able to at least get a few...forcast tomorrow 31C (88F).

Yep, getting sorted tonight. Some fresh oils in motor and gearbox, change the air ;^) and top up the tank and I'll be ready to roll.
Thanks for the reminder re: some puncture repair stuff...I still have tubes..remember them?, and a new kit under the seat usually does the job in preventing holes in a tube.
If anyone is interested to follow a map, these are the towns we'll progressively ride thru.
Day 1. Afternoon departure from Ringwood (eastern 'burbs Melbourne), to Warrandyte, Panton Hill, Kinglake and Kinglake West. Flowerdale Pub 1st stop to rendezvous with others.
Then Yarck, Mansfield to Whitfield (great stretch), Milawa, Beechworth for the night.
Day 2. Hume Weir, over the Bethanga Bridge then 100ks of curvy, undulating road following the Hume/Murray River to Jingellic. Khancoban for lunch..excitement building as we are now in the foothills and close to the Alpine Way. A magnificent 60 ks of mountain bitumen and corners galore to Thredbo. From there to Jindabyne thru thr alpine valley then Adaminaby for the night.
Day 3. Home via Kiandra and wide open snow plains, Cabramurra, Towong, Jingellic again and then back to the Hume Weir...Another 330 ks from there whichever way we feel to reach home.
Life's hard isn't it:)

Nice!
For once, sitting is South Texas with 37degrees F and drippy supposedly all day, I now have to look at sunny pics of a goods ride - rats!!
One ticket? What do the OZ cops use? Radar? Are you allowed detectors?
What are your speed limits?

Brian the cops down under use radar (the cop was in unmarked 4x4 coming the other way with a car mounted radar that works out the oncoming car or bikes speed)...and radar detectors here are illegal..(bugger!)..they (cops) use guns,camera's,planes...pretty much anything.
Our speed limits are usually 100 kph (60 mph)...some freeways are 110 kph...and some areas down under are 'unrestricted'...yes you can go as fast as you like...but these areas are nowhere near where I live...(another bugger!)

It's only illegal if you get caught! Right?
In the U.S., only two states have made radar detectors illegal, and I'm lucky enough to live in one of them. I know many people who have them and live by them. Like I said, you have to get caught. One of my friends' logic is that a ticket for the radar detector is cheaper than a speeding ticket.

One of our states actually lifted it's limits on certain highways (Montana, I think) and left 'speeding' tickets up to the officer's discretion - did the cop think you were driving at unsafe speeds for the situation? I heard that most police decided that nobody needs to go over 100mph and would make sure you agreed (with a hefty fine).
Where I live, you seem to be sitting in heavy traffic (=no chance of speeding) or getting run over at 75mph (=need to keep up with the flow, or get run over)!
