Or, should I say the sign hurt my bike today. I'm on a country road by my house here in Arizona, with 40 MPH winds. I just fought the wind all the way home on the freeway. Looking forward to getting home. A big gust of wind came along, ripped a sign about 3 feet square by 1/4 inch thick off of the telephone pole it was nailed to. I'm doing 50 or so, I hammer the brakes, the anti-lock is chattering, I'm juking and diving like a WWII fighter, and that freaking sign is tracking me truer than a Sidewinder missle. Just when I think its gonna miss me, another gust hits it. The sign hits the front end, I pull over to access the damage.
Broken front fender, on the side by the mounts. Looked it up, 177.00 bucks! Oh well, I didnt go down and do more damage, no damage to fairing or wheel, brakes. So I got off cheap.
A little epoxy, and silver speed tape and it'll hold together for 7 days. That's how long it'll take for Victory BMW to get one here.
I guess I'll thank my lucky stars I was riding. All of you on the East Coast are still digging out from the snow.
Be safe....

Lucky it didn't take your head off....it's like trying to dodge a paper or plastic bag that's blowing across the road...there's not much you can do.
I'd rather a bag than a sign....nasty....lucky you're ok.

Roger -
Sorry to hear about that! It was windy this afternoon - I had my left jug torn down trying to diagnose an oil leak, and decided to to the valves while I was in there, which meant I had to do the other side too. I am at 16K but I want to avoid the full 18K service since my new K bike will be here in May :026:
LEt me know if you need any help. If you want to save a few bucks I am a few miles from Victory and we can stick that new bit on in my garage, just let me know.
Roger,
Sorry to hear about the mishap. I rode up to Prescott with a friend today. Not too mad going up through Wickenburg, but the ride over to 17 and back south was a bear. The wind was really whipping through some of those valleys.
You might check the price at Chicago BMW. They sell for 20% off. The problem is you pay shipping. You do avoid the sales tax, so sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Good Luck

Call the number on the sign and tell them how much they owe you. Grab a couple of AZ riders and we can help you collect...:eusa_clap:

The agency that posted the sign should pay. Alot of gov't agencies have damage complaint processes that are fairly straight forward. Maybe take them the sign in your car. The sign is probably worth $1,000.

Glad you are OK Roger, the wind was blowing like a freight train up here as well, to say that we need some moisture is the understatement of the Universe, does make for a nice winter though.

Thanks all for the concern, Hey BP..thats a thought, but that suckers probabaly in Flagstaff by now. The wind was really howling out here in the country.
That sign was a homemade one and to tell ya the truth, I was a bit busy to read it at the time:037:
I checked around real quick, and Victory BMW was quick and easy to get a replacement.
Bob, appericate that, but its only held on by 4 Torx head screws, took me 2 min to pull it off and glue and duct tape it together. I did put a band-aid on it! Lets see if it stays on. My plan is to ride over when the new one comes in, replace the fender and chuck the old old one in the nearest dumpster. Maybe I can buy you a cup o joe that day.
Dean, we for sure need some rain. Its pretty dusty here. At least you get some snow once in a while.
Oh and DJ...I got a plastic bag on the header pipe of my R one day and it took me 2 hours and a six pac of beer to get it off the pipe..it sucked!!
All you AZ folks and anyone else out there. I'll holler when I'm heading east of central, We can hook up for coffee.
