Has anybody seen or does anyone know where I can get an LED light for the rear of my ST?
I do a lot of night riding. I have ordered 2 sheets of 3M black reflective sheets to put on the bags. I wear an Icon reflective vest. I want a brighter taillight and brake light.
I had the BRAKE on my R and loved it! People backed off.
Hyperlight makes one for the license plate frame, I would like a replacement bulb for the OEM bulb.
I'm not thinking of aux driving lights yet, the ST's headlight is truly awesome! That's in the future. I'll be riding to the MotoGP and will do so at night to avoid the heat in the desert, so befor July I'll put em on.
Am I being paranoid? I hope so, 30 years of street riding and I'm still here.
Thanks in advance.
Roger

Roger -

I don't think you are being paranoid at all. I have the "Brake!" unit by Gizmomill on the RT and it works great. I rode behind Harry-GPM for a block or two yesterday and he had what appeared to be the same unit and it sure drew my attention.

I'm sure you checked Gizmomill's web site (I just did) and determined that they don't make an ST unit :013:

The hyperlights aren't bad - I've ridden behind Jeff Dean and he has them and they show up well - I don't think they look as "clean" as the integrated unit, though.

I ride with a police buddy who has the best deal I've ever seen. He has an FJR and right above his licence plate frame he mounted a single red "police tupe" takedown light LED - it's red and about 3 inches wide and maybe 3.8 inch high and wired to the brake light. It flashed really bright red constantly while the brake is applied - really gets one's attention, but sort of a one-off setup.

Good luck with your project.

Yup, that's the BRAKE tail light. I replaced my hyperlights with this one recently. After riding behind a couple of guys that had them I decided I needed one. I think its a bit better than the hyperlights and certainly a cleaner installation.

I'd try emailing the manufacturer and asking if they have one in the pipeline for the ST. Wouldn't surprise me, since they sure seem to be selling a boatload of them to BMW owners.

Having seen Bob on the track at Firebird, I figured that two blocks to the restaurant yesterday would be my only chance to put him in my mirrors. :icon_mrgreen:

Hi Roger
I have tried replacing the indicator lamps as well as the brake/tail globe on my R1150R with LED equivalents and I was very dissapointed. They are VERY directional.:icon_cry:
I have gone back to standard indicators but left in the brake/tail since I have added a Lite Blazer (from Nippy Normans UK as I am in Australia). The Lite Blazer fits under the rear number plate and I am very happy with it. I also added some Lite Buddies which are red LED blocks that fit into my clear indicator lens giving me 2 additional tail lights. Great overall effect.:)

Thx all, the search is still on. Bob, I did email the Brake folks, awaiting the results. I did notice they make " universal units". I will take my rear light apart and measure it, but I need to make sure it will work with the CANBUS and anti-lock and NOT give the computer a fault, so as soon as I hear from them I will procede. On the RT1200 and the ST if the taillight burns out the brake light comes on at a lower intenisty to cover your rear so to speak.
If I have to I'll run the hyper-light set up, but I do want a clean install. IMHO the ST is a beautiful machine and I do not want to do anything to mess up those lines.

Try looking on NippyNorman's website (nippynorman.com?). They are UK based and have a ton of LED stuff. I have what I think is the Brake! thing, bought through BMW Santa Cruz. It seems very bright to me, and has been positively commented on by people following me.

On the NippyNorman site they have the tail light / brake light complete with clear lens kit, and also have some cool yellow led kits for the indicator lamps that have a red stripe of LED's down the middle (horizontal) that light with the brakes (all for the R1150R). I would think they would be the best source for ST LEDs also. I emailed them & they said they were compatible with ABS & signal minder. I don't know anyone thats tried them, but I like the idea of the indicator lamps working as both brake lights & turn signals.

I'm a bit paranoid about being hit from the rear myself. I have Pirates LED unit for my taillight. I've done business with Nippy and he's just fine, but Jerry the Pirate is a BMW rider and an all around good guy.

I also have HyperLites installed. I have the ones with the three different LED's for running, stop and turn signals.

Many times I pull a pop-up camper with my bike. The camper blocks my bike's taillights, so I installed large (about 4" dia.) round LED taillights on the rear of my camper. I bought them at a truck stop. I have them setup to flash all the time I'm using my brake. Being that all of my additional lights have been LED's, my ABS doesn't seem to know about them.:eusa_clap:

People following me report that I do stand out, even among a large group of bikers.:icon_redface: Gosh, I hope they don't mean that in the wrong way.
