View Full Version : I Miss Riding
Winter has a firm grip on my little corner of the globe. Beautifully sunny today. A little cold. But totally unsuitable for riding.

So today I did go out to the garage, sat on the bike, and even fired it up (okay, I know that is not necessarily the smartest thing to do!) and found myself thinking to early April when I am hoping I will be able to ride.
I envy those of you smart enough to live in warmer climes.

Damn Gord! What's all that white stuff?
I recommend you go see "The World's Fastest Indian" to get your mind right.
And if you don't own one, and especially if you haven't seen it, buy a copy of "On Any Sunday". This is the all-time best motorcycle movie ever made and is a true classic. If you don't agree, I will cheerfully pay you your full purchase price. In Canadian $$ of course!

Wow, that stuff sure is pretty. Is it really as cold as it looks??
There is an alternative......

Damn Gord, at least it's pretty. I'm looking out at a ugly, grey day that's just barely above sleet temps. Mine, however will be over soon.

I have done precious little riding over the past month or more because everyday has been mid 30's (C) and extreeeeemely high humidity. :ip: By the time I get all the gear on I am sweating buckets. I have been sitting in the air conditioning watching the 3 DVD set of "The Long Way Round".
Looking forward to some milder weather soon.
At least winter here on the Gold Coast (Queensland Australia) is mild and dry. We get nearly all our rain in heavy downpours during summer from December to March generally but we did get 12" of rain (30cm) in 24 hours last June!!

I spent the afternoon at my son's soccer game. We were on the north side of the field with no shade, no clouds, & sorta crummy air quality due to some brush fires 40 miles away. Temps in the low 90's, I feel cooked. That snow looks pretty nice. OTOH, I can't recall the last day I wasn't on the bike for at minimum a short trip.

Gord,
We have had snow most of the day today as well. Back in the "old days," I would bolt on my Steib sidecar, and be "fine as wine." I used to love riding on the frozen lakes in Wisconsin. I would race the snowmobiles, they were a lot slower in those days.
Don't let these critters get to you, they are just trying to make you feel bad. Hmmm . . . sort of the way I'll be doing next winter when my wife and I are in Florida.:icon_lol:
At least I was able to go to the Chicago Motorcycle Show today. I'll also be going tomorrow.:)

Give me a holler when you have a m/c related show or anything else going on in the general area. I'd like to visit one of these if time permits.
