The KLX 250 was fun and great for ridding with the kids but does not cut it on the road for me. The new KLR 650 really gets me going. I'm not a go fast guy. I like gravel roads and some light dirt is fun. I want somethinf for around town and light trips. Then there is the price, what a deal.

Anyone have the new model? Any thoughts?

Ken, I have an '05 but have spent some quality time on the new '08. It is improved for what you are looking for and you can't beat the price, 6 gallon fuel tank, 80 MPH cruise all day, an excellent all around very reasonably priced ride. You can't go wrong, plus a huge aftermarket.

What Dean said.
There is a ravenous aftermarket for the pre-'08's, companies below the radar you never heard of.
A bonus is many things also fit the '08's so there was a lot available right off the bat.
Most of the '08 owners I know and see on forums love theirs and use them just as you describe.
They can be made more road or dirt-worthy, or both. And very good right off the floor.
A genuine "bang for the buck" motorcycle !
Check out KLRWorld.com.
There are also some smokin' deals showing up on new hold-over '07's or lightly used '08's.
