View Full Version : Opening Pictures

I have noticed a lot of strange opening pics for the site, the food shots are definitely not DJ shots, and a lot of the pics are not worthy of the "Cafe". The Adv rider site, IMHO, should be a guide.
Just my thoughts, don't know what could be done about it, or more importantly, should anything be done.

I have to admit I've wondered about the food shots.
Adv. Rider does a great job with their photos and I believe from reading "Rider's" posts over there that he spends some time tweaking things with PhotoShop. No problem there as most photos do with a bit of post-processing unless you're Edward Weston so maybe it's just a time thing for the little gnomes that make the software Cafe software run?
I do often enjoy some of the actual vintage photos from "back when" that crop up sometimes on the Cafe opening screen. I guess it just depends on what sort of flavour or character of photo fits the atmosphere of the site.

I've never seen any pictures. I don't know how to access them. I've tried. It's not intuitive. What pictures?

my bookmark takes me straight to the forums... but after flashing through a number of the pictures on the main page, I agree with Dean.

I would suggest that the pictures of food need to go… :045:

I don’t have a problem with that…

Per my understanding, only the account owner (arkline) has the ability to delete pictures. However, it may be possible to "Move" the offending pics to a different folder. That might be an easier approach.
Unfortunately, I have limited time to work on the site these days.
If someone would like to volunteer to do this little bit of manual labor, please let me know.
Thanks.

I went to the main page, picture of a couple of race cars, but no indication of how to get to other photos...
Hit the refresh button. You will get a different picture each time.

As my bookmark brings me straight to the forums, I'd no idea that such a lot of dross had found it's way into the opening pics.
First time visitors to the site are hardly going to be "inspired" or "attracted" by blurred pic's of a half eaten meal..
How does one go about adding pics to the opening section? More importantly, is someone trying to "cheapen" the site openers?
Si.

I'd encourage everyone interested to set up their "Shortcut" to go to Eye Candy as their portal to the Cafe'.
http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/
Click on the Eye Candy image to enter the Cafe' Forums, or click "Refresh" to see more images, as many as you like.
The good thing is that Eye Candy is the repository of many of the best historical & current motorcycle & racing images I have ever seen. (Right click your mouse and hit "Save Picture As" to download an image to your personal collection.)
Also lots of good aviation pics.
Now, be careful...someone has added NSFW images also. I personally love 'em as I'm sure most would, but...open up the Cafe' at Eye Candy at work or with wife or kids and it might make someone squirm, as is obviously the intent of the person who posted them there.
The food images...someone has been adding a *great many* pics of jelly donuts, greasy triple-cheeseburgers and the like. Harmless enough but it really detracts from the motorcycle content we are looking for.
Problem is, anyone who knows where the Eye Candy folder is on SmugMug can add whatever they like, for whatever *reason* they have. Just typical Internet stuff...you get mostly good things with some garbage sprinkled about, you encounter mostly good people with some trolls lurking here & there.
EDIT: Different people have different definitions of "NSFW" as relates to images.
If anyone wants to see a couple of samples nicked from "Eye Candy" that qualify by my definition, send me your email address in a PM and I'll be happy to show you what I'm talking about. I can't PM them to you but I will email them.

Will,
Every browser has a 'refresh' function. In Firefox its called 'Reload', in IE6 its a little box with two semi circular green arrows. They are located up top near the 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons.

Aha, found the little "refresh" icon, and ogled the mostly crappy selection of photos for the first time. About half are great and half are useless. About like the general population of Anytown, Anyplace. If you're lucky.
Dean, you'll be sorry for that caveman gesture when I get my ice pick near your catheter in October. Don't worry, I'll poke you while you're pumping ethyl so as to save the poor cab yet more defilement from Dean and Mush Limburger.

I think I have an answer to the opening pictures problem. I'll be the poster in the future. That way ....NO PROBLEM...
