What was BMW thinking with their new paint job on the new R1200S HP.
I think I'm going to throw up.

In Texas, that's what we'd glance at and comment on the "rattle-can special".

Not sure I like it - maybe it will grow on me.

Hi Dean-O!
I was out of the US for three weeks, then back here for a week but very tied up. This week I will be in Georgia for a couple of days on business, then a week from today off to Reno for the Air Races. Will try to post on my progress, especially at the air races.

Hans is a hellofa engineer. Can't say much good about his artistic ability, except maybe too much schnapps.
However, the one on the far side of the R1200S does not appear to have been subjected to Hans' drunken joke. And they fixed the headlight too.

Actually, that's a brand new painting process. At high speeds, this is what you see:

BMW figured that the HP is rarely going to be going slow, so they painted it appropriately.

My rattle can specials take offense at that.:rofl:
At lease it is not Canary yellow or split pea green. :078:
I'll bet somewhere there is a K75 still sitting in a corner with zero miles on it.:linzi:

Bob,
If that paint job "grows on you", I've got a wire brush you can borrow.

Yea, I can't deal with that, it looks like someone took the Aprilia color scheme and drew the new pattern in MS Paint

I bet loosing that license plate adds 5 mph to the top end.
In that color scheme you better be real fast, to get away from the projectile vomit flying your way..

BMW's should be gloss black with white pinstripes. Anything else is modernistic heresy! OK, silver smoke 1974-75 R90S models are excepted.

Looks like a Gixxer humped an Aprilia !Dave, don't be crass. It looks like a GSX-R "surprised" an Aprilia :eusa_clap:

Why yes, Robert, quite correct.
The poor Aprilia was "surprised" by that randy Gixxer, now just look at the outcome !

Speaking of "rattlecan paint jobs" here's an R1200R somebody screwed the pooch on. Chris showed it to me, Harry's seen it as well. I HAD to take pics and have been remiss in my duties sharing with you all.
All the gold paint is rattlecan

I don't know if you can see it but there is overspray on the tires

The dude spent some money, had an aftermarket seat, bar risers, bags, hiway pegs..looked stupid but worked, VERY comfy motorcycle....but he screwed it up.
IF it was the stock Black paint AND the added aftermarket goodies...I woulda bought it. I thought about offering 10 grand and returning it to stock glory.

The colour scheme looks great, it's just that he's over done it a tad. Subtlety was required but ignored.
At least the stripes are easily peeled off, but those valve cover protectors and the other gold thing near them are just tooooooo much.
The longevity of the rattle can job might be questionable considering his obvious lack of an eye for detail!

I have a lot of experience with black bikes with red trim. Get just the right amount, and do just the right parts in your trim color and it's great.
Get one little bit too much red and it looks like a Chinese whorehouse !
This guy built a British whorehouse (in "honor"?) of the old John Player black & gold paint schemes, a la' Boxerboy's fine R100RS, who should be roundly insulted by this.
Obviously, the guy should be shot, or at least imprisoned.
Oh, wait...is this a California bike ? Never mind, it's just right ! :ymca:
