In the latest issue of OTL (Aug 07) our own Will Will has another one of his great stories.
Another member, Anton Largiader has an excellent article on what went on re Moto ST racing at Road America and Iowa.

Will's starting to become a regular contributor it seems. Hope he writes more, as it's nice to read trip reports and not just the latest gossip about what's happening at BMW.

Dean,
I hope Will thanks the person who helped get him where he is – that would be you of course. Without your tutorage who knows where he may have wound up. I know you think of Will as “A Work In Progress.” So Dean, keep up the fine work and hone your protégé well.:eusa_clap:

PS: Nice going Will.

Elsie -
Why not put that in a "Letter to the Editor" ?
Unfortunately talent, style & something to say are not always enough, but editors do listen to what their readers say.

Thanks Elsie. I used to write lots more, but after I became embroiled in a conflict with an entitled schoolyard bully here, whose minion called me a "Hunter S. Thompson wannabee", I sort of lost the desire for internet forum writing.
I enjoy writing for On The Level, which I consider the best BMW-specific magazine extant. I have lots of respect for the excellent female editor Meredith and for Anton, one of our members here. Anton's a Master BMW Tech, and is oft seen at our races. I think Anton works on Meredith's bike...
Frank, without Dean, I'd just be an annoying splinter in the thumb of sport riders who visit the coast. Love spanking them in the tight stuff. Rarely get above 75 mph. What for? Dean lives where you can, if you're crazy enough, do 144 mph, but if ANYTHING goes amiss at those speeds, you're toast and strawberry jam.
Dean and Dangerous Dave got me interested in the Cafe 16 months ago. A great bunch of folks. Almost like an estranged family. I like it better now that it's no longer confrontational.
Dean Lear is a unique individual. I've never met anyone who's had his vast experiences. He is a walking BMW encyclopedia when he remembers anything. He's a Pope At Large at the Moto ST races, and is always on somebody's microphone or camera being asked about the good old days.
He excells at that stuff. He and I have become real and lasting friends. Gary Nixon thinks Dean is a thug. I tell him stories when Dean is otherwise employed with race tires or interviews. In October, I'll tell him how Dean used to be Idi Amin's personal chef!
Since I'm a builder, his project amazes me less than it does others. I'm jaded. Too many years wearing a tool belt. But the honest talent he portrays in this massive project and his enticing way of posting the progress daily are worthy of a book. Period. Mz Pam's pies are for real!
Hear me, lazy Hoon? Yes, you really could/should write your book.
I'd recommend you adopt a nom de plume, however; something like
Cletus Spitnail, or Durwood Dewlap. How's that strike you, Stinkin' Frank?
Again, this is a great bunch of iconoclasts brought together by the love of bikes.
We need more WOMEN! Until then, there are two "on board" from whom I'd like to hear more. Elsie, when will you submit one of your stories to one of the magazines? You are a very talented writer, and a "good guy" (that's a bisexual term, but I don't mean it like that... you know what I mean.

WW,
You silver tonged devil. I do so like it when you spin a yarn. Just got the RA rag in the mail yesterday. First read was your report second was the write-up on Iowa and SJBMW. I'm 100% behind them and Brian. Looking forward to Daytona. Any chance for a repeat to Charleston? The hotel Doug and Toni is always open.

Young Will,
There are some who may read your post and remark to themselves, “What a nice young man, notice how he gives credit to his elders, one day he will amount to something,” or some sort of dribble like that.
Dean, Dave, George, Doug, Bonnie, myself and countless others know differently, we have seen you work and have heard you speak.
• “Frank, without Dean, I'd just be an annoying splinter in the thumb of sport riders who visit the coast.” Will you are equal or better than almost anyone I know. However, anyone being compared to our Dean is going to come in second place.
• “Dean Lear is a unique individual.” Will, he is no more unique than you. As to 144 on the street:
http://fganger.smugmug.com/gallery/1877034 Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.
• “We need more WOMEN!” Well yes.
• “I like it better now that it's no longer confrontational.” Agreed.
• “Again, this is a great bunch of iconoclasts brought together by the love of bikes.” Without a doubt.
So what does all of this mean – I don’t have a stinking clue except that Bonnie and I feel blessed being friends with the likes of those you named, yourself, and others on the site as well.

my eyes...the glare off those pristine white support hose is burning my retinas.
This was just prior to the Pit Fashion Police arresting Dean and citing him for "inappropriate race dress violations that go against the code of nature".
