Only 8500 miles and 25 years old!
1982 Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo!
I had a new one of these when I was 22, but I was rear ended on it. This one has less miles and is in better shape!
So, is it a classic, or is 25 still too young? :028:

I think 25 is the cut off point for competition. Regardless, the bike really is a classic if not a slightly flawed one. I nearly bought a 650 Turbo back then but the dealer couldn't get it running well enough for me to even test ride it. I'm sure if you showed up with that 650 Turbo at a vintage bike rally the bike would draw some good attention. Most of the vintage events I've been to in the last 10 years or so have a "display only" category for bikes that are really interesting but maybe not show-worthy competitors.

Jim,
I do think of the '82/'83 rash of turbo bikes classics by almost anyone’s definition.:eusa_clap:
From time-to-time I miss my '83 Honda 650 Turbo. I tend to forget all the months it was "down." My dealer couldn't figure out why it would not start, only after shipping it to the Honda importer were they able to figure it out. At least they didn't charge me - they had the stinking bike almost a YEAR. They gave me a loaner: an old Yamaha 650 vertical twin, to use. Actually I got to really appreciate the bike - it started.

Yeah, what they said.
The bike would be welcome at our club's 25th annual Lake O' the Pines Rallye for classic Brit & Euro bikes in East Texas in Oct.
We now have a "Pacific Rim" class (how stupid is that name ?) and it would show well and attract lots of attention. And probably a cash offer or two !
Most people's definition of "classic" is just a cool old bike that they like.

Hmmm . . . not sure if YOUR R bike is a classic or not, but the general consensus on the Cafe site is that its owner is a classic.:pftroest:
Good on ya DJ.:eusa_clap:

It looks like a Klingon attack vehicle. It would be apropos to wear a Darth Vader helmet, which you might be ablw to borrow from Dangerous Dave.
If you love it, it's a classic. Who cares what the masses and politcos say.

They said it best.
I have a 1972 Honda XL 250 in the garage. I'm working on it now. Is it a classic? I don't care, I was 12 when they came in to the US and I lusted after one. Guys were stripping the lights and WINNING Motocross races on a 4 STROKE. Yea, it was that good back then. Parts availability has not been an issue at all.
I'm gonna use it as a "pit bike", no, I don't race or anything but I'll run to the store on it, putt around the neighborhood, etc.
Jim, that 650 is sweet.

Cool! I tried to ride it to Butler's Orchard in MD for the Vintage Days, but it had fueling issues.
While it isn't perfect, it will look MUCH better next spring. It is my winter project bike while I ride my GS.
I have a crapload of spare parts for it, and hope to make it a riding collector bike!
Thanks,

Jim,
I did check out your "Maintenance Videos." Pretty stinking neat I'd say.
So perhaps all the bad things Bob told us about you were exaggerated a bit. But watching you around our women folk is still a prudent plan. :pot:
