DJ -

Thanks for the Australian poo tour. I would rather get hit with a kangaroo turd than an emu turd any day, based on your photojournal.

Thanks for sharing the pics - nice to be able to share the experiences you experience half a world away.

Take care.

Great pics, neat places ! :eusa_drool:

We need to organize a ride to your side of the world, and get you over to our side as well.

Nope DJ...

Much as I would like to I can't click on that link and enjoy your pictures over at R1150R.net.

I'm banned over there, remember?

Funny, we graciously allow links over here to a site that "net nanny" filters our very board name and won't allow links to this forum, period.

Not to mention that www.MotorcyclistCafe.com (http://www.MotorcyclistCafe.com) is the *ONLY* website treated as such by Doug's board.

Can't understand why no one else but me takes note of that interesting point. Porn sites aren't filtered out, nor any other type of site...

Just this one.

[sarcasm on]

No doubt it is strictly because of all the "objectionable material" here.

[sarcasm off]

Yeah... Right.

Cheers!

Great stuff as always DJ!
And thanks for remembering me on the license plate pic...Yes, I do wallow in the most mundane of things...it's all good to me. And I'm proud of the Oz plate you sent me for my motorcycle license plate collection.

I guess we have enough categories on here but I almost wish we had an archive type section for "photo essays" which is how I would describe your style of ride pics...far different from what we usually see. You not only have a very good eye for the image composition, lighting, etc. but for when & where to take a shot.

Me? I would have stared at the house with the junk in perverted appreciation but would have passed on by. We have a place in our Texas Hill Country where a rancher has parked a lot of antique farm & ranch implements inside his fence. There is a big iron sign over the gate that reads "Rust in Peace". Ya' gotta love it!

And I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have "seen" the Roo & Emu poo as subject material! My friend, you cook your stew with a wonderful variety of ingredients!

Ron -

I'll make this a public rather than private post as others might be in the same boat as me.
I uploaded an animated gif to SmugMug that I intended to try and post here. I did not realize at the time that the last image is a full-frontal nude shot of a nubile young lass with a shaved beaver! Clean! Smooth like Barbie!
All that is saved on SmugMug is that last image.
I not only couldn't download the animation to the Cafe but I can't delete it from SmugMug either. I have tried repeatedly, using their "Remove Image" tool which ignores me.
If you can tell me a way to delete this I will certainly do so before the manure hits the circulator at SmugMug!

First view of the ocean.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1912.JPG

Another view of the coast line...hate those fences.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1913.JPG

Whisky beach was the first beach...so I checked it out.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1914.JPG

Down the track to the beach.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1915.JPG

Over a little bridge.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1916.JPG

Here's Whisky beach.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1917.JPG

The next beach was Squeaky beach.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1918.JPG

Rocks on the beach.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1919.JPG

Here's Squeaky beach...btw...it's call that because it squeaks when you walk on the white sand.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1920.JPG

Back on the road...heading up to Mt Oberon.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1921.JPG

Wildlife warning signs everywhere.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1922.JPG

This was as far as I could go at the top...lots of walking tracks.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1923.JPG

Coming back down...it's a great road for bikes.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1924.JPG

My last stop at the Prom was a place called Tidal River...I rode down and along the river...and did a few donuts.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1925.JPG

This is the beach at Tidal River.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1926.JPG

Ok...now I'm on my way home...just left the Prom...flying over this rise and find a road full of cows running towards me...

I hit the brakes hard and stopped...should I turn around...stay on the bike...or hop off and runaway.. :D

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1927.JPG

They seemed a little spooked by the bike..and soon passed..without knocking it over...very lucky.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1928.JPG

Glad to see the rear end of those cows.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1929.JPG

Fire warning signs are everywhere.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1930.JPG

My next stop was Sandy Point..and more beach riding..what a hoot!

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1931.JPG

I used to love doing these donuts on my dirt bikes..it's a little harder on the RR....and no I didn't drop it.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1932.JPG

In case you're wondering...it says no BAIT pumping.. :D ..(not butt pumping)

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1933.JPG

Here's wishing I had knobby tires.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1934.JPG

Mmmmm Donuts mmmmm!

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1935.JPG

Back on the hard stuff and heading home.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1936.JPG

I passed a big fish on the roof of a pub...really.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1937.JPG

A cannon.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1938.JPG

Time for a bite to eat at Henriettas at Leongatha..no I couldn't park any closer.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic1939.JPG

Hot home made scones and strawberry jam...and real coke in a glass bottle...nice.

This from the BBC news Feb 8

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/4692916.stm

Deadly bird flu found in Africa

The OIE said the strain detected was "highly pathogenic"
The deadly strain of bird flu has been found in poultry in northern Nigeria, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has said in a statement.
The Paris-based organisation said this was the first time the disease had been detected in Africa.

The body said it was the "highly pathogenic" strain of the H5N1 bird flu virus, which can kill humans.

It was detected on a farm in the northern state of Kaduna, where a team of experts have been sent.

Authorities there said they had taken measures to stamp out the outbreak by disinfecting the affected premises, imposing a quarantine and putting restrictions on animal movements.

QUICK GUIDE

Bird flu

It is not clear if the case on a commercial chicken farm in Jaji, near the city of Kaduna, has any relation to the deaths of thousands of chickens in neighbouring Kano state.

Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture say they are still investigating whether the poultry there died of a more common avian disease.

Emergency meeting

The BBC's Alex Last in Lagos says an outbreak of bird flu could have devastating consequences in Nigeria where millions of people rear chickens as a basic source of income.

The OIE said that an Italian laboratory for avian flu had detected the strain from samples from the infected farm which had some 46,000 birds.

The dead birds are being sent to market to be sold as meat. It's a health hazard

Auwalu Haruna
Poultry farmer

Nigerian bird farmer's fears
Q&A: Bird flu

"We are really not dealing with a backyard operation," OIE expert Alex Thiermann told Associated Press news agency.

Farmers are preparing to hold an emergency meeting in Kano, where the price of chickens has halved, with a bird now fetching not more than $2.

Nigerian Agriculture Minister Adamu Bello said the government would cull all infected birds and has announced a multi-million dollar compensation programme for farmers.

But a northern Nigerian farmer told the BBC News website that people fear they will not be compensated.

"The dead birds are being sent to market to be sold as meat... because people are not sure if the government will assist them," said Auwalu Haruna from Kano.

Mutation fears

Mr Bello said the bird flu might have been carried by migrating birds or the smuggling of infected chickens from abroad.

For two years Nigeria has banned poultry imports from countries which have experienced cases of bird flu.

There are fears that the disease could easily spread in Africa because of a lack of safeguards.

"What is most important now is not how it got into Nigeria, but how it can be prevented from leaving Nigeria," Cape Town ornithologist Phil Hockey told Reuters.

Mr Haruna said affected farmers from Kano were still waiting to be quarantined.

More than 80 people have died of H5N1 bird flu since the disease's resurgence in December 2003 - most in Asia.

Experts point out that cross-infection to humans is still relatively rare, and usually occurs where people have been in close contact with infected birds.

But they say if the H5N1 strain mutates so it can be passed between humans some 150m people could die.
